My wife and I went to Paris Baguette (PB for short) on a Tuesday at 9pm. Most of the shelves were empty and there was a very limited variety of pastries on display. All of the pastries looked stale, as if they were there for the entire day, possibly even several days. We checked the "fresh" sandwich selection, but they all looked sad and withered. The service was basic and disjointed. We ended up ordering a chai latte and a lava cake. The lady offered to heat it but we received it lukewarm. The place does not have plates, so they ended up putting the lava cake on a wax paper-covered tray, which made the experience of eating it messy and unpleasant. I visited the restrooms for a few minutes and even that ended with a nasty surprise -- the restrooms were *freezing*. I was surprised that the venue did not heat their restrooms like they do the rest of the restaurant. Overall, our visit to Paris Baguette has been a disappointing experience throughout. There are several better options in Fort Lee.

This is a large chain-type bakery, and this particular store (in iPic building on Hudson street) is one of their latest outfits. Their products are generally good on the balance. I'm not sure whether they actually bake them on site our get some of them supplied by a regional center facility, but hygiene control on some products are deeply concerning. I recently had a simple Danish roll-type product with some small blueberry-like chunks sparsely dotted all over. It seemed very enticing, but the first bite revealed some sand-like content in my mouth. I just shrugged it off trying to convince myself that it could be some burnt crust. But as I worked my way into the core, something like a small gravel cracked into fine pieces between my teeth. It was about the size of a black pepper corn, and also cracked like a black pepper from the grinder. Only this time, it wasn't a peppercorn, but clearly a small gravel from the dirt ground! I tried to conjecture how dirt could land on a pastry product. It isn't difficult to hypothesize that they dropped it on the ground after the production or during the transit, and instead of disposing of the contaminated product, they could have just simply brushed off the dirt, put it back in the batch, and just carried on as if nothing big had happened. Of course, it's just one of many possible hypotheses, and I don't have that product any more since unfortunately it has already been opened without any suspicion & irreversibly consumed unwitingly, so I can only personally vouch for my unpleasant experience. However, the fact still remains undeniably that they are in a seriously urgent need to reevaluate & reexamine their hygiene protocol!
