We've stayed here relatively regularly over the course of several years at the end of December. We've stayed in both the CCC cottages and the historic wing of the Lodge--both are comfortable and modernized rooms that retain their historic character. We love the great hall with its massive fireplace and comfortable chairs and can spend hours there enjoying the ambience. The restaurant is pretty good (standard Midwestern comfort food) and there is also a small bar on the other side of the great hall where one can order a glass of local wine or a cocktail. Families often meet here for Christmas; the lodge is very (but not obnoxiously) child-friendly and it's fun to see them running around and enjoying themselves. The park trails are easily accessible from the lodge, and the Brussels ferry is just a half mile down the road. Altogether a homey, welcoming place.

We recently made the trip up to Pere Marquette for Sunday morning breakfast in the lodge. The price of the buffet was extremely affordable, but I wonder if that is what causes the quality to somewhat suffer. The eggs were consistently watery and cold on the buffet. We were unable to locate any jelly to put on the biscuits [disclaimer . we did not ask our server for any]. The biscuits and gravy though were full of flavor, the sausage and bacon were cooked properly, and the potatoes were just the right crispy outside with soft inside. The fresh fruit was a hit with patrons, so it kept running out, same with the danishes. Our coffee stayed full the entire time, and our server was fantastic. Extremely friendly. We have been going here for 30+ years, and we will continue. Just hope they improve the eggs!

Wife & I recently took the kids to Pere Marquette for an overnight getaway. Room was extremely overpriced for what you get. No mini-fridge or microwave. No guide in the room about the hotel’s amenities or important phone numbers. We also got placed in a room that was poolside and not soundproof. Pool is open until 10pm so going to bed early wasn’t viable. Restaurant had nice staff and food was good. Needs updating and more lighting. Pool was clean and the kids had a great time. Could’ve been warmer in the room though.

I’ve been coming to this lodge and state park with my family for 35 years and it is my favorite place in the world! I love the outdoors, and PML hits the spot like no place else. It’s also been upgraded considerably in the last 20 years. Here are some of the things you can do at PML and Park: hike many bluff trails, walk along the river, cook outdoors, rent a room or log cabin or tent/RV camp, visit gift shop, visit the wildlife center, eat at the lodge restaurant (they have the best fried chicken I’ve ever had in my life – not kidding!), eagle watching in the winter, in-lodge winery, indoor pool, ping pong/arcade room, the great hall with jumbo size chess board, volleyball net outside, horseback riding stables, lots of vista points on top of the bluff trails, seasonal festivals, craft activities, and more. The drive there is half of the beauty, especially in late October/early November when all the leaves are changing colors on the bluffs along the Illinois River. If you like rustic lodges, home-cooked family style meals, endless hiking trails and seasonal fun, you must come visit this most gorgeous retreat.

When you go you absolutely have to try the fried chicken served family style! The hiking trails are gorgeous they give unparalleled views of the river and the bluffs. Wow I've never stayed at their accommodations I've heard they are very clean and cozy.
