Plainfield used to be THE place for fancy New Yorkers to summer. Beautiful HUGE old homes nearby. But the city,like all cities, has changed and the train station needs repair, cracks on platform, etc.  More sadly, cause folk could just use trash cans, the is trash all over. 
But there are entrances from Watchung Ave and from Somerset Street if you can handle stairway. And if you can travel between 9am and 2pm it’s a “one seat” ride - one hour ride-no need to change trains in Newark.

A nice little station with two tracks.  Parking can be a challenge if you get to the station after 8am.  Parking is $3 per day, CASH ONLY.

I enjoy the ride going to work and coming home, there is not as far as I have witnessed any delays. It's smooth sailing on NJ Transit.
