Update from November 2017:

After a few years overseas, we brought the movers to our air conditioned, second floor storage facility to move our precious belongings to our new abode. 

Surprise. Severe water damage from a leaky roof. Abundant (photographed) damage of different sorts of what seems to be rodents. Thousands of roach droppings. 

The movers couldn’t finish. All the stacked boxes on the far wall were so decayed from water damage that they could not be moved without spilling contents. 

Many of our precious albums were destroyed. Including the oldest one. 

I let the movers move what they could, and returned with a rental and started the long process of scooping up what I could and throwing out the rest. 

The lift on the building didn’t work. I asked management to please move the decayed garbage next to the lift to the dumpster. Their response: if you don’t move it, we will charge you. 

Sure some of the folks working there are quite pleasant. But honestly, this is all about storing your valuables, not whether or not there is a good vibe from the front office. 

So if you think you’re saving money by using this facility, think again. I advise getting your precious belongings into a spanking new facility. 

My earlier review:

First the positives: on-site staff is very professional and helpful. Especially Erica, who is awesome. They are all hard working and courteous. Hence the second star. For you, Erica. 

Now the rest: my rentals were increased by 39% twelve months after I moved in, early last year. When I protested, they essentially said that I'm still below market prices, so pipe down. I pointed out that when you bring in customers at one rate and then go up exorbitantly, that constitutes bad business ethics. Some would say bait and switch. Didn't help. I'm a flood victim now working out of state, so I'm stuck.

I got a 39% bump in rent in one year, while Houston's economy fell off the tracks. Feeling lucky?

A business can be expected to have a fire sale to bring in customers to buy shoes or shirts. But storage facilities need to understand that this type of business practice is inappropriate for customers with household goods in long term storage. 

Corporate headquarters didn't even pretend that prices go up and down with the market. Their final sentence from my BBB mediation attempt: "As long as Mr. T. continues to rent with Public Storage there will be an increase in rent."  In the public record. 

Prices only go down to snare new people like you who are reading this. Beware.

So if you think you're saving money by going to an older, cheaper, kind of run down facility, think again. You're not. You're being suckered.
