I think we hit it on a two star day...The friendly service made it a three, but the food was just "okay". Tried the St. Louis style ribs,  chopped pork, and chopped brisket... The chopped pork was the overall winner, and had it been paired with a sauce more to my taste, would have been quite good... The other meats weren't super fresh, meaning not same day fresh, but were alright...again the sauce. Normally I like barbeque that stands on its own. But this needed sauce to kick it up, and I'm not a fan of sweet, molasses, sauce. I prefer a bit more zing... We didn't try any sides.

Good food and very personable staff. Great portions and fair prices. Would have given 5 stars if they would do something with that building / decor ...  but the building / decor does not take away from the food.

Super nice folks but I just wasn't impressed. Don't know if it was an off day or what. The restroom doesn't work, and the soda machine doesn't work and evidently according to the reviews, it hasn't worked in at least a year. I guess my expectations might have been too high for being near Memphis. I'll stick with my own homemade BBQ from now on.
Edit: I forgot to mention that my family was eaten alive by mosquitoes while inside.

Of all the places I've visited Rays is probably the most unique. Its small, old (think it was a gas station 50 years ago) with a gravel parking lot and a smoker in a big yard barn. But the best BBQ in the Memphis area, especially the ribs. Omg! Super friendly staff. I try to stop now every chance I get.

I was overcharged for some beef ribs, the interstate bbq in Memphis tastes better way cheaper and gives you more for your money, I will never go to Ray again
