The building is an architectural beauty and positively brimming with history. Guided tours are available on the hour upstairs in the State Library. They have self-guided options as well but obviously you'll get a lot more info out of the knowledgeable guides. Tour lasts about an hour. Enter through the north entrance, pass security, and proceed upstairs to the second level. The State Library is located directly above where you entered.

Beautiful paintings and architecture. And the color scheme in the chambers is so gaudy its great.

This is an interesting place to visit. The state house is quite big and there is a pretty decent sized park around. There are a few restaurants in this era. We were able to find parking pretty easily here (paid parking). We were here during the weekend, so there were not a lot of people around.

First stop in town was a free tour of the state House. The tour guide was very friendly and informative. The state House is absolutely stunning and full of history. I would HIGHLY recommend taking a tour, even to those like myself who don’t usually like getting tours of buildings or care too much about how the state runs its government.

The grounds and building are beautiful and open to the public. Stopped in while I was in town for the day and managed to arrive in time for the last tour at 2pm. Mr. Freeman was a wonderful guide and walked us through the different chambers, explaining their history, purpose, and current use. All in all it was a great ~45-60 minute tour, and would recommend anyone that isn't very familiar with Rhode Island's history to stop by if you have the time.
