The whole motel has a very nice atmosphere to it. Its very old school and it looks nice. The rooms were kind of small but we were only staying one night so it's not that big of a deal. The bathrooms we're also pretty small but they were very nice.

Very comfortable and clean. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small (cozy!) but atmosphere is huge. We stayed an extra night bc we liked it so much. They even have a pavilion with a fire pit and hot tub.

This was the most clean and sanitary motels we have ever encountered. The owners are the friendliest people you will ever meet and they take great pride in their property as you will be able to tell a second you arrive! Everything was clean and fresh, fresh paint, updated inside and out but keeping that 50's & 60's theme from when traveling was an adventure. We wanted to stay here once before when coming through Custer but they were totally booked, so be sure to call ahead and make reservations. You won't be disappointed!

I recently brought my children through Custer on family vacation. While shopping for a place to stay. I found the Rocket to be fair priced and available. I stopped in for a personal encounter of the staff and found that the owner was very honest with pricing and even did better than what was listed on most apps. I asked her about the food in the area. Instead of letting us go on our way. She invited our family to dine with them at no charge! A very good meal of brisket and veggies to boot! Growing up in an America that many have forgotten. I really did appritiate the hospitality! Not to forget, but they took an old motel and turned it into a new tester year stay! Beautiful place to stay and beautiful hospitality! Thank you for a great experience!

What a gem!! The room was immaculate, the staff was very friendly - and the coffee was free & plentiful. We stayed in room #7, with 3 kids. It was cozy, but everyone had bed space (a queen, a double & a twin). The beds were very comfortable, the sheets were soft, and each sleeping room had its own temp control. The bathroom was adorable - and again, spotless - though my tallish husband found the shower head to be a little short for him 😉. I love the retro vibe; it really did feel like going back in time. It's a quiet place, with quiet hours observed from 10pm - 7am. There is a hot tub (we didn't use this) right off a spacious covered patio, which we used twice to have a picnic lunch. Another group used the patio's grill to make themselves some food. There is not a pool, but with Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, and all that the Black Hills has to offer right outside the city...we didn't miss it. I hope to return to the area - and to The Rocket Motel - again soon!!
