I recently went to Custer State Park on the off season. It was peaceful. The quietest sleep I have gotten in a while. It was fun to pull into the state park and see deer and turkey. I stayed at the cabins. You could tell they are newer. I liked that you could park right next to the cabins. I checked into the visitor center. The worker at the center was very helpful with identifing where the animals are on the wilderness loop. When you go off season bring food because the restaurants are not open and you will need to drive all the way to Custer to eat.

Stayed at the Creekside Lodge during the off season, and it rocked!!! Peaceful and pretty. The room was amazing for spending a few days there - all the amenities you need. Staff is still around and very helpful. We saw bison family walk by our room! Beautiful state park, we will be back.

Reservation cancelled without notice We arrived after a long day expecting to relax in the great room we had chosen in the Creekside Lodge. Instead our months old, paid in full room reservation was given over to some group conference. We received no notification, though a voicemail was found on our answering machine when we returned home. We were give a choice between a tiny though “historic” 2nd floor walk up room in the main hotel or a small, offsite, somewhat creepy 1950’s appointed cabin. Apologies were made and discount and free breakfast were given. Overall our stay was disappointing.

Beautiful lodge from the 19th century! Had a very good meal there with my friends the Wagner family from Rapid City, a bucket list event. That was in 2014, first visit was 1974.
