History
Established in 1950
Originally established in the early 50's, Horse Ranch RV Park changed hands in August 2012, from friend to friend, continuing a tradition of camping, partying, farming, and feeding that reaches back to the 1950's. We host generations of revelers and shoppers, some of whom still remember the early days of the park when Mrs. Minnie Stitz raised goats, told fortunes, & welcomed campers to stay & play.
This place has been called Horse Ranch since before the first settlers, the McCallums & the Olmsteads, homesteaded this land in the late 1800's, breeding wild horses to a champion black stallion for sale to the military. It had a long history even then, as a rest stop & horse swap at the base of Horse Ranch Grade. A long drought struck this region in the early part of the last century & the property was reluctantly sold to the Civilian Conservation Corps through the Land Utilization Project. They built the main lodge & gave it to the US Forest Service, who occupied it until the early 50's.
