Welcome to the City of Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Facebook site. The Department of Public Safety is responsible for police and fire services along with the animal shelter and a consolidated dispatch center. Today we have 76 full time employees providing these services to the residents of Rohnert Park. There are 58 Public Safety Officers along with 18 professional staff members who comprise the Department.
Public Safety is a unique model used to provide consolidated services by having officers fully trained in both police and fire assignments. While we have 58 Public Safety Officers, we really have 58 police officers and 58 fire fighters. In a moment’s notice, our officers may be asked to switch from a patrol function to help staff a fire engine for a structure fire. When necessary, we will pull our officers from a fire engine to assist with a crime scene or establish a perimeter around a building. We are the only fire department in Sonoma County that has red and blue emergency lights on our fire engines because we are also peace officers.
Since the inception of Rohnert Park in 1962, Public Safety has provided excellent services to the community through our consolidated Department. Our animal shelter is one of the finest in Northern California and provides excellent care for animals that are continually offered for adoption to good homes as well as other services. Our dispatch center is the only consolidated communication center that handles calls for both fire and police. Other agencies in our County have a separate communications center for fire and another dispatch center for police. Our communication center has proven to be cost effective. Again our Public Safety model over the last 49 years provides timely police, fire or emergency medical services quickly when citizens need help now.
Rohnert Park is a great community because people take pride in our City and have high respect and trust for the Department of Public Safety. With the support from our residents, businesses, community organizations, schools and other stakeholders, we are committed to the goal of keeping our City the safest along the 101 corridor.
Yours in service,
Brian Masterson
Director of Public Safety
