Story

Roots, Inc. was created by Rachael MacLaughlin-Howells in July of 1995. The first four years of the company were operated out of the garage at her home in Sugar House. The business quickly outgrew the garage and the first retail store was opened in the fall of 1999, on Rio Grande Street. Five years later Roots moved a half a block away into their own building and now reside at 324 South 400 West in Downtown Salt Lake City. Roots is known for creating very simple yet stunning arrangements. The flowers come in fresh daily, and are never in the cooler for more than 24 hours. Every arrangement is a work of art and is made to order. We gather the finest flowers from all over the world. Our staff is committed to customer service, and is helpful in creating the perfect arrangement. Rachael has over 25 years of design experience, she began working with flowers at the age of 17 and started the business at age 23. Since its inception Roots has designed amazing projects from large-scale weddings, corporate events, and parties in Utah and throughout the mountain west. The store is also known for its outstanding service and design as well as unique gifts and home décor.

I was driving through the Provo canyon this past Saturday at around 9-50-10am heading towards Provo when I noticed a truck following me at a very close and dangerous distance. There were only two lanes heading towards Provo, and although I was in the fast lane I was going 10 over the speed limit. If anyone has ever driven through that canyon they know that it's a really curvy road and there are many cops on it. The guy driving the truck was motioning for me to get over to the left lane and looked very agitated. To my left, however, there was a guy pulling a trailer and one more car behind him. There was no way I was going to try to squeeze in between them and jeopardize their safety. The driver behind me continued to be rude and "ride my tail". When he got a chance to get over he passed me at very high speeds and stared at me as he passed. I was only watching him out of the corner of my eye, but my husband sitting in the passenger seat said he was mouthing what looked like profanities at me. TO THAT DRIVER: I'm sorry I wasn't willing to go more than 10mph than the speed limit and create dangerous conditions for me and those around me for YOUR CONVENIENCE and also you should really be careful of how you drive when YOUR COMPANY'S LOGO IS PLASTERED ON THE SIDE OF YOUR CAR. I know this isn't necessary business related, but I'm a strong believer that when you work for your company you represent them with your behavior. Additionally, I would rather have someone be rude to me at a store (if I were to come in or order from this shop) than be completely inconsiderate on the road where my safety and the safety of other drivers is at stake.

I was very disappointed. I'm not thrilled about writing this review, but I do think people who use reviews should also share their honest experiences for others. Roots was recommended to me by a friend for my wedding. I met with Rachael and we went over ideas and prices. She was very nice and seemed to have a good grasp on what I was looking for. She said she would get the pricing and some color boards over to me the next day. My wedding date was approaching and the next week I still didn't have anything. I couldn't get a response via phone, text or email. When I finally got the email, the "color board" consisted only of the pictures "I" had sent her already, and the price was close to double what we had discussed and she had written down. I tried to reach out to her for a few days to get things firmed up, but she was totally unresponsive. Finally, it was a week before my wedding and I had no choice but to find another florist last minute. When I emailed her to let her know that I switched because she was unresponsive, it still took her days to respond and all she said was that she had been very busy. It's so unprofessional to just ignore a customer who has such a big event coming up for ANY reason. This was very stressful for me and it was only luck that allowed me to find someone who was willing to step up and fill in for a vendor that left me hanging. Although she was very nice, I would not recommend her for an event of any kind.
