Very glad I discovered this place, instantly became one of my favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh. I’m glad the greens & grains fast casual concept is growing and spreading. I’m impressed with the quality of the ingredients as well as the overall flavor profile of the salad I ordered. There is only one potential area of improvement I can comment on; employee body language/attitude morale?. I realize these folks aren’t making a ton of money, but when it’s really obvious you have a serious disdain for what you’re doing, something needs to change. I don’t think it effected the quality of my food, but it does effect the overall experience. I don’t expect food service workers to be all smiles and sunshine, but when every motion they make says “I really don’t like my job”, management needs to determine how to rectify the situation. Don’t let this deter you from eating here. The quality of the food more than makes up for this minor fault.
I visited this fairly new location yesterday. Although they don’t allow dine in, it’s very clean and spacious. Staff was very friendly and service was quick. I do like how the staff all communicated with each other knowing what they were suppose to do. Now let’s talk about the food . I ordered the Mad Bowl that came with Mushrooms, brown rice, spinach, cannellini beans, roasted broccoli, red onions, cherry tom, cucumber, shaved Parmesan cheese with a basil balsamic and Pesto Vinaigrette. I really love mushrooms so the picture does show a double order of mushrooms. However this was so delicious. I’ve only been to Roots, one other time a few years ago but I don’t remember it tasting like this. I was amazed and satisfied. Portions are huge. I was able to get 2 meals out of the bowl. They do not serve meat but Chicken and BBQ Tofu and Mushrooms as an alternative and let me add it’s off the grill. But This is highly recommended

This was INCREDIBLE. I swear it was some kind of religious experience. I saw God in the eyes of my bowl. Absolutely wonderful and the best part was that it actually felt healthy! Just the best. The staff was really sweet as well. I'm in love with this food.
Super healthy and filling portions! I usually get 2-3 meals out of one Mad Bowl. Also their tofu is great!
Tbh I winged it and got the Balboa. Never been here before and was recommended by a friend. It was delicious! Would definitely try again!
Very great salads. Love the el jefe and always order that. Unfortunately, they’ve really been skimping more and more on the chicken portions, and for a $13 meal, they should really give you a ‘portion’ of chicken. When I got really lowballed and asked for a bit more they charged me another $3. $17 for a salad bowl with a normal portion of chicken is absurd. Will not be going as often anymore.
so excited that another roots has opened much closer to my apartment! i always get El Jefe with no kale, the works, and miso tofu instead of the chicken.
Food is delicious. Customer service is average, at best. As other reviews mention, they make things seem complicated when you substitute anything e.g., sweet potatoes instead of onions. This is consistent and strange. Prices have gone way up recently - $17.50 for a bowl and drink. It used to be $12.50.
The Southern w/ BBQ Tofu was delicious. Good portions and quality ingredients. Had to order using their app which has its quirks but the food made up for it.
