About

The Royal Ontario Museum connects people to their world and to each other

Story

Opened in 1914, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) showcases art, culture, and nature from around the globe and across the ages. One of North America's most renowned cultural institutions, Canada's largest museum is home to a world-class collection of more than six million objects and specimens, featured in 40 gallery and exhibition spaces. As the country’s preeminent field research institute and an international leader in new and original findings in biodiversity, palaeontology, earth sciences, the visual arts, material culture and archaeology, the ROM plays a vital role in advancing our global understanding of the artistic, cultural and natural world. The Renaissance ROM expansion project (2007) merged the iconic architectural heritage of the original building with the Studio Daniel Libeskind-designed Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. A distinctive new symbol of Toronto for the 21st century, the Crystal marked the beginning of a new era for the ROM as the country's premier cultural and social destination.

Went here for a night at the ROM. It was such a fun experience, especially since it was my first time attending this event. There were lots of food stations throughout the museum to engage you with the art. There were also different rooms with DJs and enough space for a dance floor. I would recommend going early for this event since the line up outside was rather long. There is also a separate line for coat check ($2) and a separate line for food and drink tickets. Overall it was a fun event. Definitely would recommend to a friend. Try to buy tickets in advance to save you the trouble of waiting in line!

It's easy to get lost inside the museum if you don't have a map. And you really need the whole day just so you can see everything at a nice pace and still be able to sit down and relax. Trust me, you're going to need to sit down for more than just a few minutes, it's so big! As for the exhibits, they have pretty much everything and I find that even though I've been several times before, theres always something new that you will discover. Perfect for a date.

Great Museum. Too big to cover in a day. I saw the Vikings Special at first which took away most of the time. Probably was not worth it. Level 3 offers great collection from Medieval Europe, middle east. The totem poles at the old staircase and the Chinese section has great collection. Overall liked the ambience and architecture. Would visit again to see the dinosaur floor.

Worth visiting for a day trip or if you are visiting Toronto. Kids would really enjoy the large dinosaur fossils section with many amazing dinosaurs on display, and the birds and mammal models. Adults and slightly older kids, be sure to visit the rocks and crystals section, and at the end of that, precious gems and jewellery worth a fortune monitored by a dense cluster of overhead cameras. Also worth checking out are the special exhibit section in the basement and the wildlife photography exhibits, that you have to pay extra to enter unless you are a member. The huge gift store near the main entrance is outside the exhibit section and does not require entree fee.

A huge and impressive museum with a very wide variety of displays (minerals, fossils, current animals, ecology, and a wide variety of cultural artifacts from across the world in several large displays). The building is a cool fusion of new and old with the modern crystal architecture overlaid on top of a historic castle. Special exhibits rotate a few times a year and are always worth seeing. Ticket prices have gone up and down over the years; currently a little high for my taste but I'll still go. A yearly membership is worthwhile for the special exhibition passes alone.
