For all the bad rap this Safeway gets, I was blown away when I visited in November 2017. I think I got lucky and went after a complete revamp, but the stories of rotting produce and rats running across the floor seem like distant folklore. Here's what I saw: 1) Cleanliness- the floors were clean. The produce looked clean. Even the Starbucks inside looked clean and tidy. 2) Well stocked- On a Monday, everything was well stocked and organized well. 3) Friendly staff- the check out lines may be a little slow, but the staff is friendly. If you live in Ward 7 or 8, this is a great place to get your groceries!

This store is always in some type of chaos. If it is not the customers fussing and fighting it is the employees fussing and fighting with each other or the customers. The lines are usually down the store isles. There are NEVER enough cashiers on duty and the customer service desk line is ALWAYS long for no reason. I stop at this store about 3 time a week because it is convenient and on my route home. Yesterday I bought two boxes of Land O Lakes Mini Moo's half & half coffee creamers because they were on sale for 2.99. I used it in my coffee this morning and the creamer curdled, I looked at the expiration date on both boxes and it is 6/25/17 REALLY!!. This would never happen in a Safeway in the Caucasian neighborhoods. SAFEWAY NEEDS TO DO BETTER WITH THE MANAGEMENT OF THIS LOCATION. Too much money is spent in this store for the patrons to have to suffer through this mess.

This Safeway did not have the items they advertise available. I had to ask store director for the items. He had to go to the back to get them. Also I feel this store should offer more healthy items just because we are in a African American neighbor Hood that is not a response not to have heathier items.

I loved the experience of talking to my fellow shoppers and learning a bit about the area. Quality of grocery is good. We are here just for 4 days. However, I would like to let Safeway know that they are thoroughly underserving the customers here. I have been to Safeways around the country, the low number of staff at checkout caused many folks to wait for a very long time, some with small children. I was told that During the days after paychecks are received, it gets terrible. I saw customers come in and express frustration about having to wait, these are busy people-they ain't got time to be in line all day. This can be addressed by the company for sure, easily. Get temporary staff-pay them well, the shop is doing tremendous business as you can see with the packed carts and lines. Put some money back into making the service better.
