Story

SAGE is the SF Bay Area's largest locally owned referral veterinary specialty practice dedicated to orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, cardiology, oncology, internal medicine, neurology, physical rehabilitation and pain management, and emergency care.

SAGE’s state-of-the-art facilities offer the very latest in veterinary surgical and diagnostic tools. We have equipment to perform all orthopedic surgeries for fractures and joint reconstruction, neurological surgery including brain surgery, chest and abdominal surgery, reconstructive surgery, oncologic (cancer) surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. We also perform video endoscopy and abdominal ultrasound with guided biopsies. Sage uses digital technology for taking radiographs and we offer helical Computed Tomography (CT scan) in each of our facilities. Within our Campbell facility, Sage offers radiation therapy with one of the most advanced linear accelerators available in veterinary medicine.

Our centers may be high tech, but they’re high touch as well. You, your pet, and your family will wait in comfort in our beautifully designed reception areas. Should your pet need to stay with us, our indoor kennels are comfortable and kept meticulously clean by our caring staff.

We own and operate four centers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. All offer 24/7 walk-in emergency pet care and comprehensive critical care.

I brought a foster kitten here (2 weeks old) who was on her last leg. The team was incredibly kind, professional, and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Liu. He was informative, and provided me with fantastic insight that I'll use to take care of all my fosters. I also met Laura, who took time to teach me how to feed the foster with a tube, and gave me some sage advice (pun intended) on how to best take care of the foster kitten. This place is incredible. I hope you never need to visit an emergency clinic, but if you do, go to this one.

Highest quality vet services received in the Bay Area to date. Veterinary staff and doctors are friendly and highly competent, in my experience. It is pricey but if you can afford Sage they are a top notch option for your loved one(s).

This is a top notch place. Even though it is a specialist center equipped with the best equipment, specialists and 24 hr emergency services, the cost is very reasonable and comparatively cheaper even than the "normal" vets that I have used over the years in Menlo Park and San Mateo. Our beloved dog Pinky sadly was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, an incurable and aggressive form of tonsil cancer. We were referred to Dr. Marker, one of the oncologists at Sage. He was compassionate and showed a lot of empathy and patience in helping us navigate a series of tough decisions. We tried radiation therapy which was promising for about 3 weeks and than the tumor roared back like a lion. We tried one dose of chemo and Pinky didn't take it well. Dr. Marker was very patient and did not push us for more treatment. He helped us evaluate the quality of life and we came up with a palliative care plan which ultimately provided us and Pinky with a few precious few weeks of quality time together. When the toughest moment came and we realized we needed to end Pinky's suffering, we took Pinky to Sage. The after-hour vets and nurses there was tremendous in helping us through the very tough time, and we helped Pinky with the passage in a very comfortable and home like settings. They let us sit there for a long long time (must have been over 2 hours) and didn't rush us at all. Practically speaking, the fees they charged both for the euthanasia and for other visits were very reasonable and in many case cheaper than a normal vet even. I absolutely would recommend Sage to any one who is looking at good quality compassionate pet care. Their oncologists are known to be the best in the area also. Best of luck!

They are by far the best vet specialists in the Bay Area. One of the few (if not only) vets that is still privately owned by the veterinarians (and it shows). Thoughtful, compassionate care. My older 14-year-old dog had surgery for a tumor in his bladder and then was hospitalized separately for kidney issues and in both cases he was treated like one of their own. I know his recovery has so much to do with the care he received at SAGE.

In the middle of the night last night, my very old dog went into distress. It was very upsetting. I thought he might be having a seizure or heart attack. I recalled that Sage had moved into RWC and quickly grabbed my dog and drove over there . I had the wonderful opportunity to see Dr Zachary Wilcox, the attending vet. He was kind, calm and reassuring and very knowledgeable. He has a wonderful style. He downplayed the episode and was thought it might just be pain and nothing more serious.. He told me I could take my dog home that night. It's not clear what happened or if he did have a stroke and could have another, but Dr Wilcox was so positive and didn't assume the worst, nor want to do a million procedures. (I have had too many negative experiences with vets who want to run every single test imaginable and then the dog doesn't make it anyway). He was the opposite. Also, Amber, a staff professional, was so kind and helpful. If you find yourself in a similar situation (never ideal), I encourage you to check out Sage and if you're lucky, you'll get Dr Wilcox and Amber to help you.
