Story

The Salt Lake Temple is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) located on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. At 253015sqft, it is the largest LDS temple by floor area. Dedicated in 1893, it is the sixth temple completed by the church, requiring 40 years to complete, and the fourth temple built since the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1846.DetailsThe Salt Lake Temple is the centerpiece of the 10acre Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Like other LDS temples, it is considered sacred by the church and its members and a temple recommend is required to enter, so there are no public tours inside the temple as there are for other adjacent buildings on Temple Square. In 1912, the first public photographs of the interior were published in the book The House of the Lord, by James E. Talmage. Since then, various photographs have been published, including by Life magazine in 1938. The temple grounds are open to the public and are a popular tourist attraction. Due to its location at LDS Church headquarters and its historical significance, the Temple is patronized by Latter-day Saints from many parts of the world. The Salt Lake Temple is also the location of the weekly meetings of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. As such, there are special meeting rooms in the building for these purposes, including the Holy of Holies, which are not present in other temples.

I've never been inside but I've seen pictures. It's a beautiful building. And being an artist I can appreciate the architecture. I'm not Mormon but I think if you're in the area you need to see this place at least once. The Christmas lights they put every year is also something to admire.

You can't explain why so many people feel so at peace here other than that it's truly a special place. I've been here for so many different reasons, and each time has been special. I've seen two very important people get married here, and the joy that exudes from their faces is incredible. I can't deny the sanctity of the temple.

I just love this place. I never get tired of coming to this place. Thank you so much for those pioneers who worked hard so we could enjoy the beauty of this place. It's very inspiring. This is a place where you would feel the Spirit of God.

To it's credit the Temple and Temple Square grounds (in addition to the city block they illegally bought from a corrupt Mayor Dee Dee) are immaculate, beautiful, ethereal, and generally pleasant to visit. The downside here is major. The Church Security and other operatives actively pursue any person or persons on the grounds who might be in violation of Church doctrine or moral edicts. A same sex couple holding hands, a person wearing summertime cloths like short shirts, or tank tops, someone enjoying a vape, or even using words that the Church has demonized or banned, including Constitutionally protected speech. So, go knowing there is a dress, behavior, and moral code enforced here and you will enjoy yourself a lot more. At Christmas time they have a spectacular lighting display along with concerts by the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. NOTE: visitors are not allowed inside the actual Temple itself. You may only gain admittance to the sanctified building through the ordained church processes and achievements. When a new temple is built they do open it to the public just before it is blessed and consecrated.

Being here is an amazing experience every time. Even though it's right in the middle of a crowded city, you can still enjoy the beauty of this sacred building. Everyone should come see this temple at least once in their life.
