We had a reservation at 7 pm - get to the restaurant at 6:55 and we got in trouble by the waiter for not calling ahead. The whole meal was chaotic from start to finish. They didn’t refill waters beware they charge $10 for 1 bottle of water and didn’t even offer tap water as an option. The food was just ok. We didn’t even get 1 of the dishes we ordered. The portions are very small and some dishes were salty. The worst part of the meal was when we got our check. Suddenly, our bill had different dishes than what we ordered and we were charged $235 dollars initially. We only got 1 salad, 1 entree pasta, and a small serving of eggplant Parmesan pictured here which was the special. We told our waiter about the wrong charges on the bill and he seemed irritated and took the check back. He brought it back with a few dollars knocked off. However the bill was still wrong. The head waiter then comes over and tells us that the eggplant Parmesan was usually $60!!! and he gave us a special price and he ended up charging $48 for it. He then up charged the price of all of the dishes we ordered by a few dollars. There’s only a few menus to go around for the whole restaurant so I couldn’t even reference it to double check the prices. Overall, we paid $134 so $100 less than what they initially charged us. Between the mediocre food, poor service, and highly inflated prices - we were highly disappointed and would not go back.
Take a step back in time! The service here is what truly separates the spot from other restaurants! You are greeted like an old family friend and given the specials by your uncle! It was great! The food was inspired by rustic classic Italian fare and did not skip a beat!
My recent dining experience at this restaurant left much to be desired. From the moment we were seated, it became apparent that there was a severe lack of coordination among the staff. While one waiter initially placed plates on our table, another quickly snatched them away without explanation, setting a chaotic tone for the evening. The confusion continued when we asked for wine menus. Instead of providing the menus, they inexplicably put down wine glasses. To our surprise, a different waiter promptly picked up the glasses, leaving us bewildered and frustrated. The issues extended to the food as well. The pasta we ordered was disappointingly salty, to the point of being nearly inedible. When we tried to express our concerns to the waiter, we were met with rudeness and a dismissive attitude. Their excuse for the salty taste was beyond belief, as they blamed it on "smoked fish" and insinuated that we didn't understand the flavors. The service overall was a comedy of errors, with multiple waiters repeatedly asking the same questions about our water and wine preferences. It seemed like there was a complete lack of communication among the staff. In summary, this dining experience was a chaotic mess, with poor service and unsatisfactory food. I strongly advise against dining at this restaurant. It was a frustrating and disappointing evening that left much to be desired.
Great food, salad salty but still delicious. Service was off their game, got wrong order which was corrected and waited 20 minutes for menus. They were clearly short staffed, but still very nice and attentive. Lunch entree was awesome - portion more than enough. One regret, can’t blame San Pietro for, was it was super loud. Good for celebratory meal, not so much for a getting to know you meal where I had to strain to hear my tables words. Very expensive. I’d go back in heartbeat so long as I can expense lunch!
Overpriced in my opinion and we've been to several good NYC restaurants. Seems to be a local favorite. Desserts was below average, you'd think the caliber would be better. It's not all negative, service was great and the owner very friendly. Appetizer and entree were good.Food: 3/5
Horrible experience! Had to pay the check and go eat dinner at another restaurant right after. Extremely disappointed at the food and service. Very rude and arrogant staff. Not typical Italian food you are looking for- very bland tasting and you could get better Italian food for half the price anywhere else in the area and the city. I am a vegetarian and asked for no pork/no meat pasta dish and waiter still brought out meat dish casually saying to me that it only has turkey … sir do you know what being vegetarian means? Service is bad quality and waiters give attitude and makes you feel guilty for asking for something. We live over on 5th Avenue and won’t be going here anymore nor consider it even as a neighborhood spot!
Genuine Italian with people and taste that exhibit something that feels like you’re in Italy. Prices are good too — you need to go if you’re near Rockefeller!Food: 5/5
Classic Italian restaurant experience. I like the mature waiters willing to say "let me just bring you our best wine pairing for your dinner". And it's an experience just to listen to the 16 specials detailed then summarized in reverse order. We had lamb, pasta, and branzino. All well prepared. Pasta was fresh made and a highlight. Branzino is a house speciality and also exceptional. Lamb was tasty, if one minor complaint it would be that we ordered medium rare and the lamb was well done. That said, overall a delightful experience I'd recommend to anyone.
I came with my kids for dinner, 3 of us, server took our order, appetizer and dinner, when appetizers arrived, I didn't got what I ordered, I ordered octopus I got shrimp, didn't complaint server never came to our table to check if everything was ok, he went to all other tables but our table, after taking our order he went to take the order to 3 other tables table of 9, table of 4 and table of 2, which arrived after us every body got their meal but us, we were there for over two hours and all we got was 2 appetizer, one of them wrong, a glass of wine and 2 bottles of water. I asked to cancel my order and I asked for my check, and I had to wait extra 15 minutes and then server came out with our food by then we were so upset, we didn't take the food, we paid our check, got out to the place and we had to go to another restaurant to have dinner. HORRIBLE EXPERIANCE!!!
Food is not fresh, tiny portions … my pasta tasted like something you could make out of a box. The waiter forgot to remove the metal ring around my salad. Just a strange and unappealing dining experience. I was very disappointed.
