The food is expensive but DELICIOUS. I absolutely love it and the drinks are just as great. The servers are very kind and welcoming which baffled me a bit because I’m not used to such strong but comfortable kindness. I love how they ask questions and offer to help. Also the person welcoming you is absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere was very fancy but warm. If you’re not okay with fancy environments this might not be the place for you.
A welcome, quiet when I had lunch around 1:30pm on a Monday oasis in an otherwise harried and crowded museum. I had an absolutely divine cheese panini with marinara dipping sauce and a sparkling lemonade. I haaaaate long, communal tables but I mercifully found a solo seat at the window. You won't get any bargains here, just accept that and enjoy the legit good food and respite from the churn of the museum. Vegetarian options: The Cafe 2 had at least one meatless option available in every menu category. Vegetarians will have no problem finding something awesome on this menu!
We had early linch around 11:30 and it was not busy at all but tables were filled quickly. Food was delicious and the service was also great. I had a glass of Prosecco but it was too flat. Maybe they did not well keep it or the bottle opened long time ago.Food: 5/5
Why did my pasta come with 1 shrimp? A singular piece of shrimp. And overpriced. My ceaser salad came with a piece of mystery meat on top that ruined the taste. Kids mac and cheese giant?Servers were a bit un patient. Atmosphere is nice.Food: 2/5
My pesto pasta was light and had a fresh aftertaste because of the zucchini. I usually like dishes with heavy seasoning, but I refrained from adding any salt because the pesto’s natural light flavor worked so well. I loved the toasted almonds which had it a nice crunch. Although the dish looks small, it was extremely filling.
Ugh don’t get me started. Came to this seeming utopia of caucasian food only to leave very rattled and upset. I must forewarn we were extraordinarily peckish one might even say hangry. We ordered a sandwich, mac and cheese, and a ceaser salad. You wanna bet how much that was? $50, on my mother. Now something to know about me, I am a student. The food came relatively quick, and to my demise the mac and cheese was basically noodles in a pool of cheese water. And the sandwich was acidic in a dirty socks kind of way. The salad was OK but the croutons were not croutons, I kid you not they were literally cubes of stale soggy bread. Please send your love during our recovery, Maya & Milo
Tasty—albeit unexceptional—food and good service, but the portions are absolutely ridiculous for the price, especially after already paying MoMa’s exorbitant 25$ entrance fee. If I’m paying $20 for a simple grilled cheese with tomato soup and $18 for a salad at a counter serve cafe, I expect generous portions. I understand that inflation has caused food prices to rise, but ripping customers off leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
This cafe is way much better than many cafes in other NYC museums. Food taste is ok, just too small menus.
The ordering process was very simple and the food was decent. There was not a huge selection and the prices were quite high. The main downside was the limited seating. The tables were quite close together and there were not many open seats together. A large section of seating was closed and it would have helped tremendously to have it opened up. I had the Italian panini which was OK. I didn’t love the salami but you couldn’t make any modifications to anything on the menu. Don’t think I’d eat here again.
I was pleasantly surprised by the MoMA cafe! You order at the counter, take a number, and they bring your food to the table. I got the polenta dish with poached egg, feta cheese, and sautéed vegetables. It came with a side of rosemary bread which was delicious. The polenta was 17 dollars, which really is the market price of lunch in the area. If you are dining alone like I was, they have lovely bar tables right against the window. I would like to return and try more of the menu. Vegetarian options: It looked like they have quite a few vegetarian options like grilled cheese, salads, and polenta.
