Not only free, but fantastic. The Homestake Visitor Center, perched on the edge of a seemingly abandoned open-pit mine, is well worth your stop. The center highlights the history of the mine and its role in the Lead community, while also highlighting the ongoing, world-renowned research taking place well below its surface. I love the model hanging from the ceiling that shows the extent of underground tunnels, especially in comparison to the (massive) open pit; it goes to show that underground Lead, mining shafts are profligate. Additionally, throughout the year, scientists working in the mine host talks open to the public. The Homestake Visitor Center is an asset to the state and community.

This is a very nice upgrade from the previous Homestake Mine Visitor Center. My only disappointment was the lack of history that was shown here. I understand that the Lab is the future and that this was paid for by the Lab, however a little more talk about the past would have been nice. Seeing and explaining the Lab itself was very good and the importance was great.

Very friendly staff, really neat stop! A little too cold for activities but had a lot of resources to rent and have fun

Nice museum offers a window (pun intended) into the experiments working to reveal the secrets of the universe. And ... cool toys in the gift shop!
