Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is not your typical aquarium. It's a total sensory experience designed to transport visitors to an undersea ocean of fantastic sights, sounds and encounters.

Story

Featuring dangerous and unusual aquatic animals from the world's tropical waters, Shark Reef Aquarium takes visitors on a journey through an ancient temple slowly being claimed by the sea.

Fourteen breathtaking exhibits are devoted to dangerous aquatic predators. The largest exhibit is the 1.3 million gallon shipwreck where visitors experience an almost 360-degree view, teeming with sharks and fish, through an acrylic tunnel. The Touch Pool is a popular attraction, where guests can touch an ever-changing collection of animals including sharks, rays or horseshoe crabs. More than 2,000 animals are displayed at Shark Reef Aquarium, over 100 different species and featuring 15 species of sharks.

Got to see Piranha for the first time in my life here back in 2014. They don't look very dangerous, but boy can they shred things to pieces in seconds!!! The guide said that you can literally swim with them and they won't harm you (as long as you don't have any open wounds or blood seeping into the water). Fascinating stuff! Really good aquarium. Much better than the ones here in New Zealand. Very memorable experience.

I had to get a family membership. My son is a shark lover and we really got so much use out of it. He never got tired of it. The hardest part was leaving through the gift shop. He has so many plush stuffed sharks in his room!!! The membership was worth it. There is a birthday room you can host a party in. My son loved petting the stingrays in the shallow pool, the jellyfish tank  there's a huge octopus and just standing in front of the huge glass windows watching the sharks. Every once in awhile there's a diver in scuba gear to wave at he always got a thrill out of that.  The entire place is rather small so take your time.

It exceeded mine and my girlfriend's expectations.
It didn't just have sharks, but also a crocodile, a giant lizard, rare fish, jelly fish, and the largest and most active octopus we've ever seen.  They did a great job with the walls and floors to make it feel like an Aztec temple. Children and families would enjoy it. A little hard to find if walking to it from the sidewalk.

So beautiful! I took my time. Some people just rushed right through but I wanted to spend a good amount of time absorbing it all in. The experts are very knowledgeable and gave me so much information and answered all of my questions. My favorite part was the tank that you walk through and can see the sharks above you.

Our family had an amazing time here. It is a smaller aquarium, so you really need to take your time to get your money's worth, it is a bit expensive. We really enjoyed the variety of animals, and the detailed decor and themes. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, you cannot buy tickets to the aquarium only, and have to get a polar experience/shark reef combo. There were a few decent educational games in the polar area, but the line for a 5 minute movie/ride was ridiculous. There was an iceburg chunk you can touch, which was worth going and looking at. Overall, the aquarium was amazing and very fun, skip the polar experience.
