Story

Nestled in the 63,000-acre Shawnee State Park in West Portsmouth, OH, is the Shawnee resort lodge. The lodge features fifty guest rooms, elegant dining room, meeting rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, game room, sauna, hot tub, tennis, basketball and shuffleboard courts. All lodge rooms are air-conditioned and have satellite television, AM/FM alarm clock radios, telephones, bathtubs and a private balcony.

Cottages are also available, as are a variety of activities, including playgrounds, hiking and walking trails, fishing, boating, sailing, and beach access -- and of course our beautiful 18-hole championship golf course. We also offer a variety of seasonal nature education programs.

I eat here alot. One of our favorite witnesses works here. But this visit was Valentine's Day dinner and they allowed a hostess to run the food to the tables. Not a good idea. I got my food but it wasn't my food. It actually belonged To The table behind me. My husband sat and watched me eat and then later he got his food. The table behind us had to wait for my dinner to come out before they got to eat. They were very upset because the arrived before we did, so their wait was very long. We have ran into similar issues like this on holidays. But the normal weekend is usually very good service and good food. They just can't seem to handle big crowds.

Very nice getaway.  About 2 1/2 hour's drive from the Eastside of Cincinnati, in atmosphere it's 500 or 1000 miles.  Since the first time we came here, it has reminded us of places like the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone (only it's a lot closer and less crowded).  Time seems to slow down here.  It's definitely not an *exciting* place, but if you want to relax, or hike in the woods, get away from crowds, sit by the fire, or play a lazy game of cards, this is wonderful.  And if you need some things, check out Portsmouth.  It's a quaint town about 20 minutes away with nice restaurants, Ohio's oldest brewery, and some fun antique stores.

Wonderful majesty of the Appalachian foothills is far, far away from the bustle of the city.  Babbling brooks, soaring ridgelands and deep valleys, a challenging disc golf course integrated into the forest, lakes and the proximity to the Ohio River are all but a few of the features of this Ohio State Park of over 64,000 acres of forest.

The lodge is nice, and it's beautiful there. The cabins are nice too. The wifi is pretty bad, so don't count on phone service. And another cabin of people I was with found a bed bug, I did not.

Great experience!! My family evacuated FL bc of Irma. Not only did Shawnee lodge offer our room at a discount they also honored there buy 3 nights get one night free for my family. I left very happy and can't wait to go back in spring more than willing to pay full price. My daughter had so much fun the small amount of time we were there. Great out door place for kids to see natures best views. Thank you for making my life comfortable while the hurricane passed over our home in Fl.
