Only a mile from the highway. Nicely spaced back-in sites. Near meadow with active wildlife (a moose passed within 50 ft of our site). No RV hook-ups. Vault toilets. Potable water available. We were there mid-September and woke up to 6 inches of snow. We'll return.

Good spacing between sites. No electric. Some water in the campground.

One of the largest campgrounds in the Big Horns, Sitting Bull offers long spurs and spacious sites. Lots of restrooms, water spouts, and trash cans, and only a mile from Meadowlark Lake, and a creek is just a stone's throw to the northeast. Note: higher elevation than all but 2 other campgrounds, so check the weather. Cool mornings (~40 degrees F), even in August.

The largest campground in the Bighorns. We saw 28deg about 10 days ago and the meadow was white with frost. The sun quickly warmed it up and we were very comfortable sitting in the sun at the edge of the meadow. We saw elk, deer, moose, and sheep in the meadow during our stay. Moose sightings were a daily occurrence in the willows on the creek bottoms along the lane. One moose came right through camp. And yes, the hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Harvey and Helen will be cleaning up a campsite within minutes of it being vacated, getting it ready for the next group. I think they clean all the restrooms twice a day. The children enjoy biking around the loops, playing in the meadow or in the creek, or kayaking on nearby meadowlark lake. I have been coming here since the early 70s and see no reason to discontinue the practice. The only downside is the fact that meadowlark lake lodge has discontinued their wifi, necessitating a 20 mile drive to Tensleep to call or email.

Awesome campground at 8300 feet. It was about 40°F in the morning in the end of August. Clean sites, friendly host. Paid $17 per night for 8 people.
