Story

New Texas Giant, formerly known as Texas Giant, is a steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas. The ride underwent an 18-month refurbishment, transforming from a wood track to steel and reopening in 2011. Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, the New Texas Giant stands 153ft tall and features a 79° drop stretching 147ft. The ride also features multiple turns banked up to 115° and over of track. The original Texas Giant was manufactured by Dinn Corporation and designed by Curtis D. Summers. For more than a decade after its opening in 1990, the Texas Giant remained popular, ranking in the Golden Ticket Awards as the number one wooden roller coaster in 1998 and 1999. However, throughout the 2000s the ride's popularity declined as a result of the ride becoming rougher. Despite maintenance attempts by the park, Six Flags Over Texas announced the ride's closure in 2009. Much of the original wooden structure was kept, with the track being replaced with steel. After the ride's relaunch in 2011 as the New Texas Giant, its popularity returned, winning Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Award for Best New Ride of 2011 and ranking highly in industry polls. On July 19, 2013, a woman died after falling from the ride, resulting in modifications and additions to the ride's restraint system.HistoryThe Texas Giant was originally constructed by Dinn Corporation, with Curtis D. Summers as the designer. The ride was made up of over of wood. The trains were manufactured by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. The Texas Giant officially opened on March 17, 1990. At opening, the ride was the world's tallest wooden roller coaster, standing 143ft high.

Been coming here off and on for many years since I was a child, rides have changed, some improvements, some not so much(judge Roy could use a reworking....), all in all this year has the best membership options for the price, we have the diamond elite passes with the dining pass option. Preferred parking, 50% off the dining pass(pays for itself first visit easily), many many discounts, free drink cup among several other items including TWO skip the line passes per day. I’m not sure how some have had issues canceling their previous membership, mine was cancelled within a few days before I upgraded to the new membership. No doubt his Park has been a “roller coaster”(lol) as far as their cleanliness and efficiency goes but it appears to have picked up the slack greatly compared to my past few visits in 2016 which pretty much made us not want to make the effort to go back.

Your typical amusement park. Great rides and lots of stuff to do. They have scooter rentals for older folks. $71.00 with a $25 deposit that you get back. Food prices are astronomically high so be prepared. I think they're down to 3 smoking areas in various parts of the park. Holiday are, of course, the busiest time. Great to all ages.

It was too busy, starting with the parking g lot, then at the entrance it was completely packed fortunately we enter in about ten or fifteen minutes, once inside it was not that much people but still it took us about forty minutes to an hour in line for the rides and then at some point they close some of the games so we waist about 40 min in line :/ but other than that it was fun. The only thing is that they don't let you bring anything to drink or eat from outside and they are selling 2 bottles of water for $7.00 which I think is insane specially when is hot on the lines I don't know how they get away with it :/ . Anyways our visits was fun.

Very crowded on Spring Break Friday. While trying to get wheelchair pass, we were initially misdirected by some staff. Service at Texas Tacos was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Staff at that location had obviously been very poorly trained. 30 minute wait for food after placing order. The rides were TERRIFIC. ADA accommodations were very good. Fast Pass gets the park more $$ while hurting those customers who can not afford Fast Pass.

We had a blast! the rides are so awesome just wished it was sprinkiling for part of the time because some of the rides closed. the ticket prices are a bit steep but we think it was affordable still. maybe not for the whole family, maybe a season pass would be a better option. we also only found out about the kennels when we arrived and would have loved to bring our dogs with. maybe next time! should definitely check it out!
