This is a great Family owned and operated business for the past 37 years. It is located in downtown Cayucos right on the water.
We at Skippers Restaurant would like to welcome you to beautiful Cayucos (pronounced Ki-you-cuss) which means "little boat" of "kayak". Originally an area inhabited by the Pacific Chumash Indians, Cayucos was established in 1867 by Captain James Cass. He built a wharf and warehouse and soon Cayucos was a busy, deep water seaport.
Settled by Italian, Swiss and Portuguese immigrants, it was immediately recognized as a good locationfor dairy farming. Dairy products, beef and lumber were shipped from Cass's Landing.
As time went on, the town was built, destroyed by fire, and rebult many times. The Cass house, witch has been completely renovated, is the oldest building still standing, never haveing been destroyed by fire. The site that Skipper's currently occupies was once a thriving abalone farm.
Remnants of Cayucos' western heritage can be seen in the storefronts and buildings across Main Street as well as in some of the still-standing Victorian-style homes in town. They are mostly turn-of-the-century vintage and have seen many types of businesses over the years. From 1970-1980, many old buildings were purchased and restored as lovely homes and prosperous businesses. Many of the local shops have pictures and memorabilia of the good ol' days when Cayucos was a typical western town where the cowboys hitched their horses outside the saloons.
So take sone time and explore the antique shops and malls, stroll alond the historic peir, walk the wildly majestic pacific shoreline. And when you're hungry, come on back and visit us agian.
