LIfe-changing, literally - no, really - hear me out. 

I started going to Dr. Baker & Stahlheber's office several years ago since it just happened to be near my home and workplace, for their dental practice. This is an EXCELLENT dental practice, and I cannot speak highly of it enough - professional and friendly staff who go out of their way to meet your schedule and make you feel comfortable. Literally every single person in the office is a pleasure to deal with and impeccable dentistry. Both Dr Baker and Dr Stahlheber are tour-de-force excellent medical professionals - attentive, grade-A "bedside manner", I could not complement them more. 

What was life-changing is that this dental office also specializes in sleep apnea treatment, which is of personal relevance to Dr Baker. I owe Dr Baker a huge debt of gratitude for dramatically improving my quality of life. 

I remarked to Dr. Baker when I first starting going (for dental reasons) that I have been a poor sleeper and a huge anxious mess my entire life. He conducted a 3-D scan of my head and throat, and suggested I try a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea. This was several years ago. I foolishly said oh I think it's just stress, and I didn't do the sleep study. About a year and a half ago, both of my parents got diagnosed with sleep apnea due to structural issues in their airways, and I decided to take the sleep study to ensure I didn't have the same issues. I have a small baby daughter who I love dearly and I want to be alive as long as possible to see her grow up. 

Guess what - I had marked sleep hypopneas, where my airways do not fully close but partially close off while sleeping. It had been waking me up at night and also having my blood oxygen saturation levels drop into the 80%s!

Long story short, Dr. Baker set me up with an oral appliance, basically a retainer I wear at night which keeps my throat/airway open. This had a huge effect in helping me SLEEP, and eventually I also needed to get my sinus cavities operated on as well (he saw this in the 3D scan), which combined with the oral appliance now let me get solid, straight, uninterrupted sleep at night. He referred me to a great ENT specialist. I now can BREATHE. 

I cannot do enough justice to how GREAT this has made my life. More sleep = my anxiety has disappeared. I have a clear mind. I do not get emotional or angry. My stress levels have gone way down. I am not always thinking about "how can I get enough rest". My attention span has increased ten-fold. This may sound like not a big deal, but imagine the repercussions that this has on one's life. I am able to handle anything that comes my way now with a clear and prepared mind.

I have been a patient in this practice since 1994 and stayed with the practice when Dr. Baker took over in 2004. I don't love going to the dentist but have been so well taken care of by Dr. Baker and his staff that I have been very comfortable in the dental work I have had done. The nice thing about this practice is that the staff has largely been consistent since I have been going there making it feel like visiting friends every time I go to the office. The Hygiene staff is wonderful and the office manager Sandie has always helped me figure out my insurance coverage. I really appreciate the calm and welcoming atmosphere at the practice and the fact that I don't feel like I am being 'sold' on things I don't need to have done. I feel very lucky that even though Dr. Baker is a specialist he still takes the time to handle my smaller dental work.  I hope I never have to find another dentist because I know I will be disappointed.

Two filings last night and I felt no pain! The fillings feel amazing unlike my previous dentist who always rushed the work. The best thing is that they played music I like on Pandora and actually chuckled at some of my lame jokes. I'm not sure if this is good or bad because now I have to find excuses to go to the dentist. Christina is awesome at what she does as far as I can tell and I highly recommend getting work done by her.
