I'm a nurse, and I'm picky. My family has needed the ER many times in the past 3 or 4 years. Twice this year. I find them to be compassionate and responsible. It's slow... always.... but you never know what else is going on. I do wish they would stop by and update you more often... telling me the lab was down after I've waited 2.5 hours for results would be more helpful when YOU knew it. But they get 5 stars because I trust them.

I am writing this letter because I am recovering from a broken right hip, misdiagnose from a fall I had on Thursday, September 7th.2017 by the emergency doctor Keith Rosenberg,MD. I fell coming out of Saco Sports & Fitness Club on September 7th. around 5 pm after leaving the fitness club & just sighing up to get back into the gym. Coming back to my van their was a rise in the parking lot between my van & another van. Was able to get up on my own- -but was in a lot of pain! After that I was barely able to drive home. When arriving home I was not able to get out of my own van. I called a friend, Pat S. I called 911, Old Orchard Beach emergency came & got me into her van. We went to Southern Maine Emergency, this was about 6pm. Pat went into emergency entrance to get a wheel chair & three medical personal to help me out off her van & into a wheel chair. I could not put any weight on my right leg without being in excruciating pain! Was wheeled into emergency. We had to wait for over an hour before seeing Dr.Keith Rosenberg. Pat wheeled me into my meeting with Dr. Rosenberg. He asked me how I hobbled into the emergency room? Pat said, she did not hobbled in, I brought her in the wheel chair. I told him I could not walk or put any weight on my right leg without excruciating pain! He ordered an x-ray of my knee only!! I was in so much in pain when I had to lie on the x-ray table for my knee ! Pat& I waited for hours, it seamed to hear the results from the x-ray. Dr.Rosenberg said my knee was not broken. I kept saying it was not my knee. I couldn't stand on my right leg. I was sent home that morning, which was around 2-2:30am Friday. The doctor sent me home with a walker , tylenol & ibuprofen. On Saturday I was not any better. Living by myself, I had a difficult time getting around my home. I could not even sleep in my own bed, I had to sleep in a chair. On Saturday, I called my doctor my doctor Karen Doehne of Falmouth. Talked with a doctor on call, told her what had happened & in so much pain. I told her I was not going back to Southern Maine.! She put in a prescription at Hannaford store Saco for tramadol. Pat picked up the prescription up for me. Took tramadol, but still in pain! This went on until the morning of Monday, September 11th, I was not any better! !! Pat came over to see how I was doing. She could see I was still in pain. She told me she was going to take me to Maine Medical Center in Portland. We went into Maine Medical center- --got several people to get me into a wheel chair from out of her van. Did not have to wait very long. They did an x-ray of my knee, right hip & my pelvic area. I was assigned to Dr. Gregery Blaisdell, an Orthopedic specialist. He told me & showed me the x-ray of my hip. The socket was completely gone. He scheduled me for a complete hip replacement surgery on the Tuesday September 12th. I got great care in Maine Medical center. Was transfered to Sealrock Rehab. in Saco.on Friday September 15th. Went through rehab.& was releasted on Wednesday September 27th. to go home. Had pt & ot, also at home. Had a follow up with my doctor, Karen Doehne on Friday, October 6th. Then a follow up with Dr. Blaisdell on Monday, October 23rd to have an x-ray. He said I was healing very good. I want to let Southern Maine medical center know what kind of terrible treatment I received from Dr.Keith Rosenberg, he didn't do his job as a doctor. I wrote this letter hoping that other patients would get better treatment then I did. Did not want others to go through what I did. It just goes to show you everyone must have an advocate with them in the hospital. God bless my friend for being with me & being my advocate. I know nothing may come of this, writing this letter ,but if I can help one person get better treatment, then so be it!!! Check out my information with my doctors, Karen Doehne of Falmouth & Dr. Blaisdell of Portland. Sincerely, Sylvia Orchard

I am a Google guide so I want to preface this by saying I am always professional with reviews even if the are bad. However this time I will practice my professionalism in a lead by example process. Meaning They were unprofessional so all courtesy is left at the same door they kicked me out! I have a six year history of kidney stones. I don't have insurance so I can't get surgery. Most people have 1 or 2 in their life,I'm 29 and I have 26 in my left kidney and 12 in my right. I explained my long history in detail,it was obvious i wasn't making it up because I described in medical detail everything that had been done so far. U had a pain prescription currently with refills to manage the pain. It was so bad I could no longer work. This time I could not pass the stone. I actually collapsed in a store and was in so much pain k could only thrash around. Was driven to the er. I sat for 4 hours befire going to a room,no treatment at all. I finally took one of my prescribed pills as I was overdue on my dose and was in need anyways. Security came to me and tried to take my pills away,no explanation. I got upset ,they left. Finally i went to a room. I was seen in a different er 3 days prior so I actually had a discharge paper, with results from a cat scan and ultra sound saying I left with the same stones mentioned above doctor would give no medication. I went to take my own,I was told if i did I would be kicked out. My choice is now unbearable agony and whatever they have planned,or my medication for my chronic illness, comfort, but no idea what may happen to me. So I said ok but asked why I can not take it. I was told no meds until testing. This is understandable in most cases, but I'm obviously n it lying,I have a discharge from 3 days prior with 46 stones combined and I may have passed 2,they can call the other hospital to verify. Having stones is not a question at this point. He said "your not getting drugs until you give urine so we know you aren't an addict and send you for ultra sound " an addict? I'M A CLEAN CUT YOUNG MAN WITH VERY NICE CLOTHES, AND A ROLEX.(NOT THAT IT MATTERS,EVERYONE DESERVES THE SAME CARE) BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT AN ADDICT . I was told the paper didn't "look right". Now security is outside my door. I hear the dr say to the nurse "we got another junkie script shopping ". I am fuming. I was stabbed in the heart years earlier and died for several seconds, this is more painful. I suffer through it. I PASS OUT FROM PAIN. by the way this whole time o wasn't even given IV fluids. That's not drugs, that's salene. Every1 gets that,I need the fluid to move the stones. I pass out again from pain. I give up. I ask to leave against medical advice,I am beaten and hurt. I am sad, confused, disoriented from the pain. As I sign the against advice slip, a new dr comes in. She says "I am so sorry (a nurse is now putting some needle in my arm) she tells me I'm getting dilauded for pain and fluids. I am a proud man. I cry. I fall to my knees and cry.i was in so much pain. I was hours from home. Just out of a divorce (break up with kids involved),I'm on hour 13 in this we. This is the first time someone is treating me like a human being. It is also the first time I am receiving anything, no Motrin nothing at all,no fluids,NO WATER,NOTHING. I can't complain, I'm to hurt. They had to give me more just because if the severity. I had a 9mm calcium oxilate stone blocking ureter. Surgery is required for 5mm. I also had about 35 stones still in there between both kidneys still. That 1 large stone trapped all the others and stopped all flow. She was amazed I was not unconscious from the pain. The test backed up what I said. Because if the 14 hours I spent getting nothing I got a serious infection afterwards. I went to another er and was keot for 6 days. The infection was so bad I was septic, the infection was in my blood stream, temp of 95.3(hypothermic). This would not have happened if treated. Went in for normal stone. 14 hours later left with life threatening infection the reply"the opiate crisis is bad" healthcare system is worse!

DO NOT GO - Seriously make that extra 20 minutes of a drive north or south you will be in and out faster! The fact I just had to call and remind your staff of a patient that was forgotten about for 6 hours is mind baffling. The lackadaisical behavior of your staff is sickening & the way I just heard your staff over the phone speak to a patient who is barely an adult waiting for a surgical procedure..??!! Did you all print your licenses over the internet? Where is the bedside manner? Where are the doctors? A little hospitality or empathy for those who seek you out when their in pain! How hard can that be? Why choose that profession if you're not going to help? Hmm!?
