About

Spondivits is an Atlanta Legend

Story

Located on the Southside of Atlanta, an area not known for restaurant longevity or as a destination for Atlanta diners, SPONDIVITS draws a regular and loyal crowd. It takes great food as well as atmosphere to keep the throngs happy and coming back for more. "Casual, real, relaxing, people want to stay here and come back," owner Andy Camp. Chef Glenn Gagne, a sixth generation chef, has overseen Spondivits for 13 years. His kitchen is remarkably efficient-turning out the freshest of oysters, fish, shrimp, gumbos, chowders and 100% Certified Angus Beef steaks, served to specification. Spondivits world renowned oysters are back! Remember raw oysters are at their best if the name of the month has an R in it September, October, November, December, January, April. That cool salty flavor that only cold water oysters have is getting better by the day!

Nice little gem of a seafood restaurant near the airport. the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is seasoning and service. I had the fried lobster and fries which the waitress talked me into; it was a little salty and not seasoned. They give 2 dipping sauces, cocktail and something that tasted like Caesar dressing. I requested tartar sauce which was an extra 95¢. My friend had the surf and turf. It was a bit over cooked; she ordered it medium rare but said it was still good she enjoyed it. The server posted up at our table at one point to share her opinion on how to cook steak... Interesting but not entirely off-putting. Loved the atmosphere and mix of people in the place. I'll give it another try.

Only positive about this place, is that it feels like you're dining on a boat. Negatives: Quality of food is low while the prices are too high. Crab cake was a huge let down. Do not order it. Gumbo was heavy, oily & salty. Six or seven shrimp for an appetizer costs around $20! The server was very pleasant. Tabs over $50 automatically incur a 20% gratuity added to bill.

The food is always great!! Service was attentive for a busy place . But . . A 20 %. Gratuity was automatically added to my check!!!! When I asked my server about it I was told is was standard on all checks over $50 . I'm in the industry & I'm required to inform my guests when this is standard ( Large parties, private dining rooms) since I didn't see it posted anywhere or printed on the menu my concern is how many people are double tipping w/o knowing and basically being robbed by their server . This reflects badly on the restaurant . I know I'll think twice before going back & warn anyone who asks me about it. Which is sad because the food is worth both the price & the wait.

I was so ready to give this place 5 stars till me and my wife were harassed and disrespected by the busboy with dreads serving here. We got the two course meal, and our waitress Crystal was amazing, I would so go back for the food. Throughout the night my wife pointed out that the bus boy with dreads kept looking at us, she felt that he was disgusted at us for being gay; I watched him stare here and there and determined he was just fascinated because we were a beautiful lesbian couple. On the way walking out the busboy with dreads held the door open for us and moaned and mumbled things you just don't say to customers as my wife and I walked passed him, and then proceeded to try to follow us to the parking lot. I don't know if he was trying to watch us walk away or get our number but Thank GOD for the valet parking that was there and thank GOD people were around. The food was great, just not looking to go to a place where the employees don't have respect for the gay community or woman in general. It was disgusting.
