I have never been in trouble with law enforcement before and thanks to the Springville police department and one officer i have no trust in them nor do I feel safe when they are around. I was outside my house and my mother in law and I were arguing. We weren't very loud  or causing harm to anyone when officer Mendez walked over off duty and asked us what was going on. He addressed who he was said he was off duty. He was on civilian clothes and alone. I asked him to show me his badge  (which I have always been told is acceptable to do and they have to show you) he got upset with me and refused to show me his badge. Because I asked more than once he said I was being out of line and disrespectful.  He then in front of my kids put me in handcuffs he put them on really tight and proceeded to be rude and forceful with me all because I was still saying I had a right to see his badge. Luckily I was thinking and had my phone on me. I called a friend because I thought I might be getting arrested and didnt want my kids left alone or in the hands of the officers or dcfs. He got really mad that I used my phone and told me I wasnt allowed to, even though I wasn't arrested. So I put my phone in my pocket with it still on.  My friend heard everything. After I had used my phone and he was upset over it he pushed me down while in handcuffs so i could "sit and calm down". After he pushed me down he flipped his drivers license at me really fast with no light to see, and hurried and put it away. That was him showing his "badge" him pushing me down  messed up my wrist and left bruises  on both my wrist and on one side of my leg. This happened in novemeber and my wrist is still messed up from it.  My friend who was on the phone the whole time listening called dispatch told them the situation and told them to send officers (since Mendez had no radio or anything to call for back up) dispatch was upset and told my friend who was on his way over that he wasn't allowed to go over while this was going on. Other officers showed up and I got put in the back of a SUV cop car. They were clearly upset i called someone and asked why i even did. Mendez at some point left and I never saw him again. When they realized my friend was already almost to my house they were going to let me go. They told me i could get out (still in hand cuffs) no one was helping me out. I am 5.4" and they were parked next to the irrigation part of the road. So when I stepped out I started to fall. They then got upset and said I was charging the officers and asked if I really wanted to go to jail tonight. All of this happened in front of my kids who are 8 and 4. They now are afraid of the police and dont trust them which is sad since they are here to help and protect us. When i later called dispatch to complain about what happened they told me mendez was not there and he was not on duty. It is too bad that there are officers out there abuse their power. I have heard multiple stories about officer Mendez I always thought people were exaggerating until this night. I wish their superior officers or supervisors cared enough to put a end to these kinds of things.

It's nice to know that Springville officers file police reports with false information given by very not credible people who aren't even involved with the situation without even talking to the people who were actually there. It's alright. Abuse of power has to come from somewhere right? I've lived in this city all my life and it's sad to say that I don't feel protected by the law enforcement. I don't feel safe.

One officer will tell you it's ok to do something and another will tell you the complete opposite.  So how are civilians supposed to know which answer is right. They seem to have no problems leaving a 2 and a half year old with the person she watched beat and abuse her  mother.  He packed up all his and the babies stuff while her mother was in the hospital. Protect and serve? I don't think they know the meaning of their own motto. Pathetic

Female officer Lindsey Halladay  was rude and abusive to my daughter and grand-daughter on August 2nd. She and other officers surrounded my daughter at a car wash a few blocks from our residence in Springville. They physically took my grand-daughter away from her mother causing both a lot of mental trauma. Halladay said my grand-daughter was in danger, and said she was sending her to Florida to be with her father. The detective was abusive and threatening to my daughter and gave no prior notice or reason why she was taking her three year old away, and she did not even allow them to say goodbye to each other. My daughter and grand-daughter had been living with me for 8 months. The detective told my daughter to move to Florida even though custody had been established in Utah. Extreme Nazi behavior from local cops. We will be taking legal action. also my daughter was further harassed and detained a few days later by other officers without cause.

I’m a prior police officer/ marine vet, and I’ve never been so disrespected like I did on Oct 31, the police officer who dealt with me doesn’t know how to do community policing. I would thing at the rank he is in, would know. I got pulled over for underglow  which this SGT officer told me it’s illegal and was saying it’s in the Utah safety handbook. But under the Utah Law code book there is nothing saying anything about underglow. He was sayin the officers ive delt with for the same issues are idiots cause thy said I just can’t have red, blue or flashing. I’m super happy I’m leaving this city and I’ve only been living here for 1 month.
