We had a great time. 5 of us worked on chicken for 2 hours. We were getting it ready for tomorrow’s gravy. It was good visiting with Ward members for the 2 hours

I love serving here! The food is always plenty for those in need and you always gain new relationships with those your serving with. The staff is knowledgeable and fun to work with and they have the system down really well. Anyone can show up without knowing anything, be able to serve effectively and leave feeling edified.

The food really isn't bad. The chef actually does a good job. However, the portions are so small its ludicrous. The average meal (which you probably won't want to consume all of, given that you may not like peanut butter or milk) will run about 600 calories total, and they only serve twice a day. Being homeless actually burns so many more calories, due to heightened stress levels and exercise/exposure to the elements, that you could easily add 1000 calories a day extra to the recommended calorie total. So, you need about 3000 calories a day for a woman and 3700 for a man. Even if you weren't homeless, this place would only serve you six hundred calories twice a day, meaning that every day you relied on this place you would lose between a half a pound and a pound, depending on your own caloric needs. Given that we're homeless, and require more (good) food, we could easily lose a pound to a pound and a half a day, exclusively eating here. If it was just free food, and they had a limited budget, that would be one thing. However, this place received 25 million in donations the first quarter of last year. Even if that was the only money they received, they still receive fifteen dollars for every meal that they serve. 90% of the food is donated, however, and they only have three paid employees and two security guards, Part time. And so we starve, and I do not know where the money goes.

Eaten there far too many times, due to my past addictions causing homelessness. Used to allow as many plates as you wanted. Now only one. Too bad, but still a life saver. 100's of meals and I never got sick. I think others blame withdrawal symptoms on the food. Bless this mess (hall).
