I loved the drive thru Arapaho Forrest and Rocky Mountain national park to get there. My wife and I spent the night at the north Michigan lake reservoir. We spent about $30 for one of the greatest experiences in our lives. The mountains, ice fishing while hearing moose in the distance, snowshoeing and building a warm campfire to keep us warm during the winter night. This place is awesome.

Love camping here on the n. Michigan reservoir loop. We have driven through, but not stayed in bockman loop which had rougher roads and not as much draw for us. We have hiked a couple trails by ranger lakes even with electric there, we would still prefer n.Michigan reservoir. Lots of day hike opportunities in the park. Plenty of wildlife viewing too. The moose visitor center has lots of good information available and helpful folks behind the desk. Probably, the biggest drawback of the n. Michigan loop is the lack of camp body availability. The camp host site sits empty. We asked at the visitor center and we're informed there is a camp host but they don't like the site so they stay at the maintenance building. That did not impact us much but is inconvenient for anyone wanting to ask questions or simply get some firewood. Overall, this was our second time here and we will likely be back again before too long.

Warning, Warning! Numerous species of highly aggressive mosquitoes inhabit this park. After spraying with bug repellent every few hours, I still ended up with MANY bites. Aside from that, if you don't have a 4-wheel drive, don't bother trying to hike at this park. It will add many, many miles to every hike because you can't get to the trail heads. This park is not for hikers like us! It's jeeps, ATVs and those with mosquito nets. After looking for the bragged upon 600 moose for two days, we finally left the park and finally saw a moose just outside the park. Also the campground was completely without any trees so there was no shade.
