Sterling Insurance Agency has grown to become one of the leading independent insurance agencies serving Beverly and the North Shore.

Story

The Sterling Insurance Agency Inc. was established in 1929 by Lester O. Sterling. The business originated out of Mr. Sterling’s house. After a few years, Lester (Les) moved the business to an office location at 222 Cabot Street, Beverly. In 1961, Mr Sterling constructed his own building on 9 Broadway, Beverly.

On September 1, 1983, Lester stepped down as President and sold the agency to Richard (Dick) Mooney. Mr. Mooney had been the Executive Vice President since 1974.

Due to continual growth, the agency needed larger quarters, so in September 1993, Sterling Insurance Agency renovated and moved to 306 Cabot Street.

In April 2002, Richard (Rick) Mooney, Jr. was named President. Rick began his career in insurance in 1985. Sterling Insurance Agency continues to be a family owned independent insurance agency serving Beverly and the North Shore. We will continue to give you personalized service into the future.

You won't find a friendlier and more community based Insurance Agency in the area. Everyone there takes the time to sit down and really talk about your insurance needs. I used to dread dealing with my previous agents but Sterling has been a pleasure to do business with. They really seem to care, consistently asking how I am and how my family is. I'm always walking out of their office happy.

I recently purchased my first car and was referred to Sterling Insurance by a friend. Paige helped me through every step of the process, via email and phone, and was (and is!) a truly helpful guide through the process. It actually turned out to be much easier than I thought with her help. I worked with her firsthand and she was always happy and helpful and very upfront about what needed to be done and what things would cost. I am referring everyone I know to her and Sterling Insurance-- they're a solid, trustworthy company in a sea of shark-like competitors.

I purchased a car insurance policy from Sterling Insurance. Initially this policy was to cover one car. After having the policy for a few months, I purchased an additional car which I needed to add to the policy. Having checked online on the Commerce Insurance website I found that the rate should be roughly $350 per month for the coverage I wanted. I asked my boyfriend to speak with my Commerce Insurance agent, Sterling Insurance in order to add the second vehicle to my policy. When going over the coverage I wished to purchase which was the Exact same as the coverage for which I received a quote for on the Commerce Insurance website, the agent Paige Nichols at Sterling Insurance stated to my boyfriend in my presence of this phone conversation that she could not provide a quote for coverage. When told the amount of the quote that was received on the Commerce Insurance website she stated that the actual amount may vary slightly but that any variance would be minimal as the coverage purchased was the same as the coverage I received a quote for online. He was then told to call back in a few days after purchasing the coverage, and that at that time he would be supplied with the rate for the coverage. When he did call back one week later, he was told that the rate was unavailable and to wait for the bill to come from Commerce Insurance in the mail. When the bill arrived several weeks later, the charge was for over $600 as opposed to roughly $350 as quoted online. When calling and speaking with Commerce Insurance directly to inquire about this, they stated that the online quote should be accurate. They also stated that the agents can look up quotes on their internal system, and provide quotes immediately. To state otherwise in the words of the Commerce representative was simply a lie. Immediately after this conversation Sterling Insurance was contacted, and informed of this. To date they have refused to provide any explanation. I have since switched to Liberty Mutual and have purchased substantially better coverage for both vehicles for under $350 per month. Sterling Insurance, and their agent Paige Nichols are a dishonest company, and by these actions are in clear breach of Massachusetts Law. A complaint has been filed with the state Attorney Generals office, and a civil suit will follow under Massachusetts General Laws chapter 93A covering Unfair and Deceptive Business Practices.

Ive been stuck with badcustomer service from a couple different agentsys in Lynn the past ten or so years. My buddy from high school told me bout Sterling in Beverly. They heard me out all the way and hooked me up with a great new policty and a way lower price. The one lady i dealt was always nice and wnt out of her way to help me out.

Sterling Insurance saved me money on my insurance and I got such great personal service with such a friendly and knowledgeable staff. They provided me with free regisry service and they saved me money on my auto insurance. Very friendly staff and very helpfull getting my auto policy started. They exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed the whole insurance purchase experience. From the moment I stepped in the office the receptionist made me feel welcome and directed me to a very pleasant insurance person who sat down with me and went through the auto application and explained all the coverages. They also provided a free registry running service. I don't know about you but I was so relieved that they could go to the registry and take care of getting my license plates. Then a wonderful person at Sterling Insurance Agency took off my old plates which were rusted on and I could not budge the screws so they worked on it and was able to remove the old plates and put on the new plates which was such a relief and a huge time saver! I have referred my friends to them and they said they had such a pleasant experience. I felt like they did such a wonderful job in getting me the appropriate coverage at a great price on a convenient payment plan. I tried contacting some of the other Insurance Companies but it was so refreshing to meet face to face with an insurance expert that could understand my insurance needs and explain how the Massachusetts Auto system works and how you had to get insurance before you get your new license plates. They are located on a main street with free parking in the back of the building and thats where they switched out my plates. Thank you again for all your help with my auto insurance needs and I will be getting an additional credit when I get homeowners policy. It is great to meet a local business that takes such pride in their business and helping someone that was not farmiliar with the Massachusetts insurance and registry rules when registering a vehicle. I truely got Sterling Satisfaction!
