The only reason I started coming here in the first place was because the old owner went above and beyond to try to make it as vegan-friendly as possible, and was a wonderfully nice person. The atmosphere was fun and quirky, and it was a novel Boulder experience that I made sure to share with everyone when they came to town. The almond ricotta (recently discontinued) was one of the best parts of the pizza.

My experience with the new owners has been the complete opposite, to the point of even creating an environment antagonistic toward vegans as well as completely destroying the old culture of the place. Last time I was there, there was a sign right by where you order that said "All of our burgers are made with 100% vegan cows", which seemed pointlessly antagonistic to people who (used to) make up a large portion of the customers.

I'm definitely not going here again unless things significantly change.

The Sun Deli was recommended to me by someone from when I visited Nooch Vegan Market in Denver. Well, apparently the shop has new owners and they discontinued the house-made almond ricotta that people were raving about. I was super disappointed in their options and service. They do not cater to vegans, just some veg meats as options for extra charge. 
The owner even said "Do I look like a vegan to you? I look like I can eat a vegan". I found this rude and of poor catering to customers that sat down in their restaurant.
I ended up buying a hemp milk ice cream sandwich in their cooler which isn't even their own food. 
Then I took my business to Thrive raw vegan restaurant because I knew I'd have abundant options there and am never disappointed with anything I've gotten there.

This place got really sad after the new owners took over. Boulder is known as being a "healthy" place, but vegan selections are abysmal in this town. One safe haven used to be the Sun Deli. They used to make their own vegan ricotta and pepperoni. ..SO GOOD. Well that's gone now. They can still make you a vegan pizza, which tastes ok (a little too heavy on the daiya for my tastes) but the ingredients are far less exciting. CMON BOULDER...we can do better. I'd really love to see some more support for the vegan community and better/tastier options at local restaurants.

Bring back Jones' Convenience, Roma, Bacaro, and the Tesla Dealership on 9th. This town's changing. Sun Deli has changed too. For the better. The fresh proteins the kitchen prepares in the back, and the cleaner feel to the place, really add something to this end of the mall severely lacking before.

this was was so accommodating to vegans!  lots of different vegan meats. i was surprised. so delicious!!
