I'm a regular shopper of the TJ Maxx stores.  This particular store was an excruciating experience in patience and understanding on my behalf. 
I had a return from another store.  It had a different tax code. It might have well been written in Alien Code for the amount of confusion it caused. It took about five tries to get my return approved correctly and that included intense scrutiny of the actual return which still had the original tags attached. 
It was suggested that I tampered with the return before bringing it back- and not in any sort of subtle language either. 
No doubt this was incredibly rude and not indicative of the TJ Maxx family as a whole...this store stands alone as a bastion of Rude.

Horrible customer service experience!! At check-out the cashier left and came back after changing the price tags on two items I was buying to a higher price, telling me a customer probably changed the tags to a lower price. Her tone implied I had changed the tags, which was embarrassing! I asked for the general manager who agreed with the cashier. I walked out. Most good retailers stand behind price tags on their items if their employers made a mistake. TJ Maxx does not stand behind its mistakes or its prices. Verify the correct price!

Had the correct receipt + the unused/unworn Herve Leger dress with manufacturer and store tags and sensor all on in tact and on the dress, which I was  returning by the imposed deadline for Christmas purchases. Low and Behold Chris -the GM- CREATED a new RULE at whim that precluded me from returning the dress. She said I had to return the item at the TJ MAXX where I bought it, which means I will be a day late and will have to take a store credit for an expensive RUNWAY item. There is nothing on the receipt that says purchases must go back to the store of origin. Chris invented that!  LAST TIME I EVER WALK INTO CHRIS' TJ MAAX! She lacks managerial skills and customer service worthy of any customer. She makes up rules when she does not want to return a legitimate purchase, to the detriment and inconvenience of the customer. Insulting!

Nice place to find garments, home goods, small gifts for the reasonable price. I put four stars only because it's hard to find garments made from natural materials, like cotton, linen, wool, which I prefer, so I have to check frequently. It's preponderance of clothing made from polyester

Great store, however....
I had a bad experience when I had to take my three year old girl to the men's restroom for a quick potty break. The bathroom was gross and was in desperate need of attention. Feces clogged stales, urine on the floor, toilet paper strewn about was what I had to navigate, trying to help my child while at the same time not touching anything. 

It's small details like this that make you wonder if this was a one off thing or just part of the everyday customer experience.
