Story

T. R. Pugh Memorial Park (or The Old Mill) is a re-creation of an 1880s era water-powered grist mill located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It was used in the opening scenes of the movie classic Gone With The Wind. In 2010, the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park was built in 1933 by Justin Matthews and named in honor of Thomas R. Pugh, of Portland, Arkansas, who was a close friend and benefactor of Matthews. The architect for the park and the mill was Frank Carmean with artist Dionicio Rodriguez serving as sculptor of the concrete work to simulate wooden, iron, and steel structures. In present day, due to its picturesque views, the Old Mill serves as the backdrop for weddings and portrait photography. In 2008, the roof was set on fire, but no permanent damage resulted.

A great place to take pictures. The waterfall and the rocks make for a great backdrop. Overcast days are great for reducing shadow lines . The park overall is kept up nicely. Your tax dollars at work.

Hidden away in Little Rock. Awesome place for pictures, I have pictures with my mom and i when I was kid and now have pictures of my daughter and I here. We took pictures in the same places at the Mill. Great place that is never crowded and easy to get around.

Probably the most heavily photographed area of Little Rock. Seldom crowded, and generally nice for a quiet walk. While the entrance is wheelchair/stroller accessible, it is difficult to get around to the Old Mill itself with wheels. Still, worth a visit if you want a nice historic backdrop.

Beautiful!! Hubby found this on the Roadtrippers app as we were driving from TX to TN & we were so glad he did!! Great stop for individuals, couples, families.. portraits! I felt like I was in Beaty & the Beast visiting Belle’s home—it is really that stunning!! Read afterward that this mill is actually in the opening scenes of Gone With The Wind. This working mill was built in the 1930s as a replica of Arkansas mills that were used in the early 1800s—it was intentionally designed without doors and windows to represent the how years would have worn on it. Also!! We visited in the cold (there are icicles in the photo) and the bathrooms were VERY nice, clean, heated—fellow females, the women’s bathroom has hooks for your sweaters or purses!!!

The park around the Old Mill is very pretty, albeit small. The only real problem with it is its popularity as a tourist destination / photo shoot locale. It's exceptional if you can visit it on a slow day and have some peace and quiet, but good luck with that!
