This place was AMAZING!! It was like a little piece of heaven. The food was pretty okay, but the view was one of the greatest things to see. The golf course is not very picky about what you wear, as long as you're somewhat decent. It's a shame that such a wonderful public resort is turning into a retirement center. If I were you, I would book a trip as soon as possible!

Looked like at one time it was a very classy place. It is getting a dated look to it now. The rooms were clean and the service very good so no complaints there. Looks like they were doing some remodeling in one wing and at another restaurant by the lake so hopefully that will modernize the place. We visited during the off season so our room without a lake view was very reasonable. The food at the in house restaurant-Mr. D's was also good and reasonably priced for a resort. Drink prices were a couple dollars more than normal but that's to be expected at a resort. The workout room was next to the pool and felt like a sauna and the equipment looked like it was from 1991, but was all functional. All in all a solid 3-1/2 out of 5 stars.

We go to Tan-Tar-A every year and we've never had a bad experience. The rooms are always clean and the employees are friendly. We've been for anniversary's, family reunions, fourth of July celebrations and more. My favorite spot is the pool with the lakeside view near the beautiful waterfalls. We can't wait to go again this summer!

Resort is in need of some cosmetic upgrades, however the rooms were good size and relatively clean. Our room had an older hard to control a/c heater unit, an older mini fridge, and older furniture compared to our neighbor. The fan and light in the bathroom need to be on separate switches to help with noise at night. No insulation from hallway noise. Indoor pool is very large with ample space for adults to watch kids. Also a ping pong table in the pool area. Nice work out space next connected to pool. Indoor water park was a big draw and the kids loved it. A little pricey at $17; adult observers were $5. The water park had plenty for the kids to do and a snack bar. The temps outside we're cold which created a lot of mist all around inside. It made it harder to see kids. Breakfast buffet was ok but nothing to get excited about. Reasonably priced but wish we had ventured out to eat. Arcade area and bowling alley we're great additions although also showing age. We went in the winter so can't comment on summer activities. Overall the kids loved this place and we enjoyed our stay but look forward to the renovations that are sure to come with the new owner.

There were no microwaves in the rooms and I have a daughter with food limitations and brought frozen dinners for her to heat up in case the restaurant or food service didn't provide that type of food. I had the half chicken from the restaurant which was delicious. They did not have much food choices for people with food limitations. A gluten-free dairy-free breakfast was dry cereal and fruit. Housekeeping staff was very nice and accomdating. .
