I liked Taqueria Azteca. The food was very good, the atmosphere was very good, and I agree with the other reviews as far as service goes. When we arrived we were the only people there so the service was good, but as it got busier she was spread thin. She did a good job though and we never felt neglected. The tamales were very authentic as were the enchiladas. Worth a visit but don't be in a hurry.

Food is decent, especially on Taco Tuesday $1 tacos. Service is horrible because they are always short on staff, from waiters, to cooks, to bartenders. Usually there's only 1 staff doing all the orders and serving. I've come in for tacos and a drink and don't even get a menu for a whole hour, not to mention a water or chips and salsa for the wait. They MUST do better or they won't be open for business much longer.

Visited for dinner tonight May 25. Place had 4 ladies in the booth just drinking and chatting, a mom and older son, another mom and younger son, and two of us. We came in, got seated, and get a menu. Then the chips and salsa came out. The chips were fried in old grease (i know what old grease Tastes like, been in kitchens for years cooking). Some were soft and mushy and some were crispy. We ordered our drinks, ate the chips... No drinks yet...ice tea is what we both ordered... and waited.... and waited.....4 tacos... that's all.. finally our waitress noticed we didn't have drinks yet... finally we got them and the two tacos each. No silverware or napkins. We waited... No waitress...i finally got up and got them myself. My first bite...grissle the size of a nickle... when he took a bite of his taco...grissle also... when we were done, i cleaned up our table, pushed it too the front.. and waited. After 10 min. I went up to the counter. The waitress asked how i liked the food. I told her i wasn't impressed. She then said, wait and went to the back. I waited another 7 minutes (yes i timed her. I've been in this industry for more than 20 years). She comes back and rings up our bill on her calculator when the register is right there. $14.40. We are going to McDonald's! I probably will not be back.

Good is ok, but the service was absolutely nonexistent. Walked in on a Saturday night at about 830. The waitress was sweeping so we asked if they were still open. She replied shortly, yes, and went back to sweeping. We stood there for another minute until she waved as if to tell us to sit anywhere. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant at the time. After we sat down the waitress kept sweeping for a few minutes and then went up to the bar and yelled something at an older gentleman (possibly the owner) who was sitting at the bar drinking. After a minute he stood up brought us menues and asked what we wanted to drink. We both asked for strawberry margaritas and he came back 10 minutes later with them. In this time a Hispanic family also came in and the waitress seemed to know them and greeted them right away and took care of them. After tasting the drinks we realized that there was absolutely no alcohol in them! We told he owner when he took our order but he insisted there was. We didn't argue any further and placed our order. We waited patiently for the food and looked at each other saying under our breath that that was certainly the last time we would go there. Food came out a short time later, no one stopped by to ask how it was or if we needed anything else to drink. We finished our meals parched and stacked the plates at the end of the table. The waitress helping the only other table in the restaurant walked by several times while helping the other table and finally over 10 minutes later dropped off our bill without a single word. Margaritas were $9.50 each for virgin margaritas, and there was 2 waters on there that we were never even asked if we wanted. (Which we would have taken). Definitely will go to el patron from now on. Liked the place when it was el mariachi and before that Cozumel.

So, this is a Mexican restaurant that doesn't give complementary chips and salsa when you are seated? I'm from the area but now live in Milwaukee for almost 2 years and coming back to these small town restaurants is super disappointing. Didn't this place use be called El Mariachi and they did give out the chips and salsa? I ordered the super nachos without meat because I am a vegetarian and those were very disappointing. First of all the portion for the price was ridiculous, secondly all the sour cream was all on one side and their "Pico de gallo" isn't what I would call Pico and there wasn't much of that either. I asked for jalapeños on the side and never got those. It looked like the chef (or basic cook rather), just slopped the plate together and didn't care how it looked. I'm someone who really enjoys going out to eat and cooking and the overall presentation (whether I'm cooking at home or eating out). I also wanted a mojito and they were out so I ordered a mango margarita and the flavor was good but where was the tequila?! In every margarita I've ever had you can always taste the tequila, except I guess here they don't put any in them?! I mean cmon, you know want to taste a bit of that tequila in your margarita! I definitely won't be back when I'm in town and just save my money for my regular Mexican places in Milwaukee where the drinks are perfect, the food tastes&presented excellently, and the staff is more attentive and engaging. I mean, for what I paid in Fort Atkinson, at my favorite place in MKE, I can get a huge burrito and two margaritas AND endless complementary house made chips and salsa.
