A warm and welcoming congregation which offers a sense of community, a feeling of belonging and a deep commitment to Judaism. Our wonderful rabbi and cantor are enthusiastic and caring. Services are filled with worship, song and joy. We also have a vibrant Religious School. Social activities are numerous--Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Young Families and more are always planning something.

I originally liked it. Reform liturgy with a traditional feel (except for the music). Options for those who wished to avoid the noisy family service. Unfortunately, the Rabbi prized the almighty dollar above the feelings of its congregants by its leadership unilaterally changing the Sabbath prayerbook and by making a major liturgical change for the High Holidays without running it by the Religious Activities Committee (which I was on) or informing the congregation. Hear the new Rabbi is not bad. The sad thing is that in Bergen County, there is not much choice.

Temple Avodat Shalom is a warm and welcoming Jewish center for prayer, learning, and friendship. It is a Reform Congregation with a dynamic and very approachable rabbi and a talented and warm cantor. The Religious School provides an individualized education with many family centered programs geared to develop a desire for life long Jewish learning in its students. I am very thankful that I found TAS 17 years ago.

What a wonderful community of happy and welcoming people with a wonderful full time Rabbi, full time Rabbi Educator, and Student Cantor. We were making the rounds of all the Reform and Conservative temples in this area and from the very first time my wife Pam and I entered the building, we were greeted warmly, engaged respectfully and invited back. We were smitten and became members and enrolled our two sons in the Religious Schools Kindergarten and Second Grade. Our children remained in school, became Bar Mitzvah on our Bima and attended our Hebrew High School TASTE program. Both became Madrichim (teaching assistants) in our Religious School and became members of our Temple Youth Group Board. Pam and I became members of various committees and have held various positions. I am the current President of our temple and am soon to be a Past President. I explain to the readers of this post that Temple Avodat Shalom is the place to be for educating your children, belonging to a Reform Jewish community with traditional religious services, a place with a serious responsibility for social justice, various interfaith dialogs and programs for multicultural understanding, a well organized and well attended youth group, family events and programming, empty nester programming, Renaissance group programming and various social programming, Tot and Family programs with dedicated Tot Shabbat, Family Shabbat, Weekly Friday evening and Saturday morning Shabbat Services, High Holiday services and festivals to serve all of our needs often led and participated in by our own temple youth, teens and lay leaders. A very talented Adult Choir, led by our accompanist/Choir Director and Student Cantor, many Adult Education options to fill your calendars, several educational, informative, cultural and entertaining programs open to the entire community. We have affiliation with the greater reform URJ movement, Jewish Federation and the greater local Jewish community. Have an idea? Looking to make a difference? Need a place to call your spiritual home? We are looking forward to the future together. Please stop by and see for yourself. I am grateful that we did.

A great home to worship, learn and celebrate. Lots of young families. A ton of activities. My family receives the same warm welcome we did on our very first visit.
