An absolutely gorgeous location. Perfect place for a wedding or any other celebration

Totally disagree with Ms. Simmons. It is not impossible to be a Jew in NJ. It might be if you are not a member of a congregation. I also highly doubt you can walk into a church demand a date for a wedding, etc and not be required some fee. Granted you are looking to have Bat Mitzvah. The fee charged by this and other temples is necessary to ensure that you and all of us can walk in freely on a Shabbat or any other Jewish Festival or have a minyan to assist in the Kaddish prayer. Keep in mind we pray to God, but God doesn't pay the electric, heating, maintenance or salary of the clergy. The members pay that with annual dues. The caterers do not reign supreme over this facility or any other. I've been to the catering hall many times and find the staff, chef and Marty to be incredibly courteous and honest. This is one of the nicest places to have a beautiful affair. Ms. Simmons post has nothing to do with the affair as it does with not understanding how all Jews need to support and understand each other. It's so easy to bash the religion when things don't go your way.

I never though in all of my life I would be reviewing a Temple but every Jew needs to know this story. I called the temple today and spoke with a gentleman named Marty. I called because I wanted to have a bat mitzvah ceremony for my daughter. I am not an observant Jew, but over my families history my grandparents have survived the holocost, my grandfather fought Hitler, I went to yeshiva for the first 4 years of my life, my husband was married, received a Get, remarried me in a synagogue in Brooklyn, all this is our backstory. When my child asked me for a religious ceremony for her jewish coming of age I was happy to offer it to her. Except it turns out Jewish temples in NJ seem to have rules against allowing future Jewish men or women who are coming of age into their services without years of payment and additional fees there after. Since when has standing before god and reading the Torah become a paid privilege. Even if I was willing to pay, why should I. I can walk into a church tomorrow and receive confirmation and call myself a catholic so why is it that I am being turned away from calling myself a Jew. It is outrages to me how any religion, especially my own, could turn away a 12 year old child from being a believer regardless of the education she may or may not have previously received. If I went to the wailing wall tomorrow and wanted to have a bat mitzvah for my daughter I am sure Israel would not turn me away so why is NJ making it impossible to be a Jew? I think the temple and temples like these need to reexamine their policies and the next time we as a nation wonder why our children are not remaining in the faith I hope someone reads this. entitlement
