About

A remarkable journey from the mountains to the sea!

Story

Within our two buildings, you’ll trace the path of water from the mountains to the sea. Come face-to-face with the fascinating native animals that live in our backyards and the amazing creatures that thrive in some of the most remote locations on Earth.

We celebrate the rich biodiversity of the Southeast through our exhibits and are actively engaged in preserving and restoring that biodiversity through our work in the field.

Mission

The mission of the Tennessee Aquarium is to connect people with nature and empower them to make informed decisions about water and wildlife.

Awesome aquarium, worth a visit. They have the usual creatures but so much more. The aquarium is split into two buildings, saltwater and freshwater. My favorite part is how they have a large central tank in each building, and as you walk through the exhibits you keep coming back to the same tank, but at different levels. This offers a chance to see the animals that live at different water levels, a super cool concept. All the volunteers were knowledgeable and happy to answer all my questions. I loved the touch tank; I've been to many aquariums but never touched a sturgeon before! Overall, some of the best animal variety and excellent design I've seen in an aquarium. Looking forward to visiting again someday.

Love the Tennessee Aquarium. I live near Atlanta and I think the Tennessee Aquarium is better than the Georgia Aquarium in a lot of ways. My favourite thing is the butterfly exhibit. Very friendly staff. Beautiful fish and displays. Animals all look healthy and well cared for. Facility is clean and well maintained. Over all experience is great.

Just took the grand children through the aquarium they had a great time. The adults liked it to. Everyone thought it was excellent! They have two buildings one houses a fresh water aquarium. You go up an escalator and become a drop of rain falling in Great Smokey Mountains. You then trace your path to the gulf of Mexico. There are side halls with info about all the great river's of the world. The salt water aquarium is also great lots of different fish and they have penguin and a butterfly room. Both were great.

I was not terribly impressed with the Tennessee Aquarium, mostly because there is little to no interaction. You walk through the buildings, and you're finished. The selection of aquatic wildlife is minimal at best, and the walk-through exhibit showcases what few wildlife there are from different angles. The positive note I can deliver for the Tennessee Aquarium is the butterfly garden. There are a beautiful selection of butterflies that fly around and sometimes even land on you. All in all, it was worth paying the ticket price for my wife and I, though I personally never plan to return.

One of the best aquariums I've ever had the pleasure of going through. It is $26 per adult, which isn't bad considering the amount of food they have to buy and, the amount of water that needs to be kept clean. This is an extremely nice aquarium with a rather diverse collection of aquatic wildlife, from the penguin to alligator and butterflies to rainbow trout and an electric eel. There was a rather impressive collection of jellyfish. And the size of some of the fresh water fish just amazed. Keep up the great job Tennessee Aquarium! We'll be back!
