Over the years, the Legislature broadened the institution's scope and changed its name several times, marking the school's progressive growth into a major, multipurpose university. In 2003, the Legislature changed the name to Texas State University-San Marcos. In 2013, the university's name was changed to Texas State University. Texas State offers nearly 200 undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.

This beautiful campus has given me so many opportunities to improve myself in more ways than just academics ❤️ I have fallen in love with the community as well as the university, there is only one downfall that I take as a pro and a con; it's becoming more and more over crowded! I understand that the university is growing but they should also accommodate for these growing numbers :/

This is a beautiful campus, and is a campus that continues to grow. If you explore campus enough times, you will find some of the nicest views on campus. I've had an extremely positive experience during my time at Texas State. Both, the Family and Child Development and Education program are amazing programs to be a part of at Texas State. Teachers and staff in both departments have demonstrated passion for what they do for their students, and the passion teachers have for what they teach shows in the classroom. Experiences vary per department, but from my personal experience its truly been an amazing time at Texas State. Let me not forget to mention, the beautiful river that runs through campus! Also, yes parking can be a mess sometimes, but if you use ALL the resources Texas State offers such as the bus transportation system you should be just fine! There are options to overcome the issue of parking. I still have yet to find a university whose parking system is flawless.. with a student population of over 38,000 it shouldn't be a shocker that parking can be a little problematic at first. Get informed about the parking lots, bus routes, and you will be okay. This is coming from a daily Austin commuter...

In summary: Overcrowded, nearly over-priced, but with under-funded departments. Not handicapped friendly or even fat person friendly (they haven't upgraded half the lecture halls so if you're not stick thin be prepared to sit uncomfortably in a tight chair surrounded by hundreds of other people). Near non-existent diversity. Do not transfer here, you will receive no assistance. If this is all you can afford and if you manage to find a place to live near enough to campus then this school is OKAY. Otherwise, I would say look elsewhere for better upgraded facilities and friendlier student population.

I thought I would love it here but I was soo wrong. Parking is ridiculous for off campus students, it's scarce and if you don't get there at exactly 7 am then forget it. The professors vary in competence, I've had some great teachers but I've also had teachers who have absolutely no consideration for their students, sending late emails about some mistake that they made or waiting until the last minute to tell me what book I needed to buy. It's ridiculous. There's stairs everywhere, which is fine, unless you have a class that's not only across campus but up stairs as well. The library is always packed so if you need to print something you'd better hope it's not time sensitive. Overall the campus is nice but the university needs to prioritize the students.

I transferred here because I thought it would be a great experience for college but I was pretty wrong. Parking is the absolute worst. They will give you a parking ticket any possible moment but if you get a permit there is never parking. Teachers can vary between amazing and awful (I would say 50/50) and everything is underfunded. Jones Dining has nothing but unhealthy food and they are always running out of food. There are a lot of programs to join which is good but other than that I would look at other schools.
