Story

We’ve exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling beams; centered one of the largest outdoor seating spaces in the City around a swan fountain; and crowned the coffeehouse with a reclaimed church window. We’ve created The Abbey on Butler Street to give a sense of place, the feeling that you’ve discovered something, right in your own backyard.

There are nooks and open spaces, music, craft coffee, beer and cocktails, small plates and heavy entrees. It’s easy to spend a day, as we’re open from 7am to 2am. We’re awake if you are! We’ve set the scene, so join us in telling a story, whether it’s a daily stop for coffee, dinner by the fountain with family, or happy hour with friends, we welcome you to take rest and delight at The Abbey on Butler Street.

Every day we are crossing and blending boundaries. Collaborating. Tasting. Smelling. Thinking. Bartenders, Baristas, and Cooks…sharing the best of each of their crafts to create the best possible experiences for customers. Renovation and Innovation are the heart of “The Abbey”.

We’ve taken an abandoned church’s rose window and made it into a halo of light that hangs above our coffeehouse – it’s actually our logo. A reinvented space, once a foundry and then a funeral home, now a coffeehouse, pub and bistro, all nestled under one roof. We love architecture and history, we enjoy stopping to listen to stories of old, we work hard to reclaim and reuse, to preserve and make better. This is what we’ve made The Abbey to be – a meeting place of old and new, of friends and coworkers, of regulars and destination seekers. It’s approachable; a place where one can take rest and delight.

I would love to give this place 5 stars. I agree with all the positive things that the other reviews point out and love that the coffee bar is open late for studying. My one complaint is that the men's bathroom is consistently disgusting. It takes a lot to gross me out, but this bathroom usually does the trick. Crazy that such a nice place wouldn't take care of something so simple. Hopefully they take care of it.

The layout was beautiful from the coffee bean door handle to the beautiful writings on the wall. There was a bit of a wait to be seated and upon being seated we were hit with the fact they do not have high chairs or booster seats for children we were there for Sunday brunch with our two-year-old son. We were then told that this is not a kid-friendly restaurant! Our brunch was exceptional green fried tomatoes we're the best I've ever had!!! So to all that have small children and would like to go out for brunch Abbey's not the place for children but it is a nice place for adults.

The atmosphere of this place is incredible. I will definitely be back. I'm not a vegetarian, but the tofu curry sounded so good I had to give it a shot. Delicious! We had really good service outside, too.

Thus place is so cool. The decor inside is very dark. There are rooms everywhere. When you walk in, you're in a long hallway. Look up to see the words to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody hand painted all around the crown molding. It's amazing, really. The bar is on the right, and there's a dining room and outdoor patio on the left. The menu is small and primarily English in flavor. Reward yourself with the mac and cheese. It's totally worth the calories! Top it off with a coffee drink and your evening will be complete.
