I love the staff here. They are a good team that help patients heal, and then set them up for success after they leave.

LONG POST: ABOUT INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT CARE, NEGLECTING TO CARE FOR PATIENTS IN NEED, AND TAKING AWAY MEDICATIONS (CAUSING DANGEROUS WITHDRAWALS) I am writing this review to inform others who are considering going to the Carolina Center, impatient or outpatient. Brief background: I was put on my first benzo when I was 17 years old by my psychiatrist. After about a year, we decided that I should be taken off this medication because he felt as though I was improving. The next year, I felt like my depression and anxiety was getting significantly worse. I voluntarily committed myself and spent a week in their inpatient facility. About a year later, I was involuntarily committed. I don't have many bad things to say about impatient care, but I will say that it felt like I was being babysat for a week instead of being helped. I wasn't learning how to effectively manage my depression and anxiety, and was often looked down upon by the staff and treated like a criminal when I was involuntarily committed. Not to mention the outrageous hospital bills. Outpatient care: After my first inpatient stay, I opted to enroll in their PHP program, which I found to be extremely helpful. Fast forward five years later, after my inpatient stays, I decided to give their IOP program a try. My dad passed away from cancer only months earlier, and I felt as though I was slipping into a deep depression. About three to four weeks into this program, I had a severe panic attack while in IOP. I managed to make it to the main building and blacked out after making it to the front desk. My heart rate was 168 and my blood pressure was 160 over something. Long story short: they treated me as though I was crazy and shouldn't be acting like it was a big deal. They wouldn't call for medical help either. They kept trying to talk me through the ordeal, but I wasn't really improving. I was convinced that I was having a heart attack and had never felt that kind of heart pain in my entire life (and I have had anxiety attacks before). At the time, I was prescribed a benzo and had been taking it for about five years. They told me to go home, take my medicine, and go to sleep. In my state of panic and anger, I told them that I only had a few left because some nights I would take two pills instead of one (mind you I was on a very very low dose). They faxed my psychiatrist and doctor and wrote that I was abusing my medication. It is now part of my medical record for every doctor to see. This forced my psychiatrist to take my off of this benzo right away, which means stopping COLD TURKEY. He said it would be malpractice on his part to keep prescribing my this benzo, so I wasn't given the opportunity to wean myself off and suffered from severe withdrawals (physical and mental). I went through psychosis, had auditory and visual hallucinations, severe panic attacks (sometimes lasting hours), suicidal thoughts, muscle spasms, and didn't sleep for days. I was sweating all of the time and had horrible body aches. I couldn't get out of bed. The Carolina Center did not care. Someone has a severe panic attack so they take them off of their anxiety medication? How does this make sense? I told them the truth because I wanted them to help me, not suffer through benzo withdrawals (which is very dangerous). Anyway, they sent me on my way without a care in the world. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Please look into all of your options before deciding to go to the Carolina center. They do not care about patient's well being; they only care about the money

Probably the best mental hospital I've been to. Unit 3 is the best of all the units and the staff there are great and friendly. Only had a few problems with the staff members on unit 5, but thankfully I wasn't there long. The food is decent , but don't expect anything fancy. Groups are usually somewhat interesting, especially recreational therapy and free day! Doctors are okay too, but I have my preferences. They have therapy dogs that come in on Mondays too! TV is provided, but channels are limited. No internet tho and no cell phones. Beds are...okay. Bring winter clothes because it's cold in there! There are smoke breaks though and you can go outside even if you don't smoke. You can have all the coffee you want. All in all, I give it 4/5 stars!

They get the job done, eventually. The staff is very slow. Nobody you can talk to can answer any questions. They pass them along, but nobody ever responds. There are mice in the patient rooms. They just tell patients they are seeing things. Discharge takes forever. We have been waiting seven hours for a single signature and I am told we will likely have to wait until morning.

My first experience ever in a mental hospital and it was amazing and the nurses treat you very well. The doctors monitor you when they put you on a new medicine and see how you react to it. The people are nice, but depends on when you go and who you with. In general its a great experience
