Mowtown Monday has been for the last year my favorite part of the week, a huge crowd, a free live band, and tons of people having fun and dancing. Then there was last night. They for some reason started charging a cover and the crowd was less than great. Only a little less than half the crowd showed up or actually went in. Really bad business choice when your drinks are already some of the highest prices on South Lamar. And the more people you bring in the more drinks you sell and the more money your bartenders make. I'm assuming they did not do so well last night. Lots of standing around when usually they are always consistently busy. I hope they realized the mistake they made. That being said the band is awesome!

This is the first time that I had visited the Highball since they tore down the old one. The area is now a shopping center with parking available underground. There are a lot more places here than there was in the past. I came here to do karaoke with a group of friends for a birthday party. Karaoke takes place in separate rooms, each with a different theme. The one that we went to had a Super Mario Bros. theme and was fun. There is a wide selection of songs. You can also order food and drinks in these rooms. There is a light switch that will notify the server that you are ready to order when turned on. You can rent the rooms by the hour. Downstairs is a dance hall and bar. It's a rather large dance hall and there was a performance going on when we went. Overall it was a fun time. I did not see any bowling alleys which I thought was a bit strange.

Went here for karaoke with a couple friends and had a good time! You rent private rooms for karaoke, they are pretty decent size. Could probably comfortably seat 7 or 8 people I'd say. Song selection is average, there was a song or two where the lyrics didn't sync up with the music but otherwise no complaints. Drinks are a little more expensive than average, beers in the $6-7 range and cocktails $10-12. Fun place, will probably go back again.

It's been years since I have been to the Highball, so long that the old building I remember has long since been demolished and there is a new iteration. I used to live in town and decided to return for vacation. Motown Mondays is well worth the cover and it was packed tonight.

Chef Brad, 25, began cooking at age 17 and moved quickly up the culinary ladder, graduating from the Culinary Institute of America. At the age of 22, Brad opened Black Creek Bistro as executive chef, which became a top new restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. Brad recently relocated to Austin, where he now owns this 'unique' establishment.. This place is great for music, karaoke, food and drinks..
