Story

People's relationship to coffee is personal and intimate: it's where function and emotion intersect. To share in this experience is a distinct privilege.

Our mission is to enhance this experience through consumer education, a scientific process to quality and an approachable tone. We seek to encourage and direct those in pursuit of the perfect cup, both within our four walls and beyond.

We began in Richmond, VA with a sidewalk coffee trailer in the fall of 2012. Having bounced around the city we fell in love with our spot at VCU and decided to open our first storefront on campus in the newly renovated Arts Depot building. Stopped by while in town for business. The latte I had was excellent. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. By chance, they were doing a cupping of some different beans from a company - Little Amp roasters - using various brewing methods. Very cool to compare the results. I'm assuming the guy doing the demonstration was the owner (?) - you could tell he loved what he did and enjoyed educating people on all aspects of coffee. Strong work, guys!

Best coffee I've had since leaving Seattle in 2015. I live in the DC area and I've been dying for DECENT coffee. This is so good it was worth the drive to Richmond. If my first cup at 1pm hadn't been a triple, I'd have had a second. Now I have to find another excuse to drive down.

If you're a first-timer, the prices may seem a bit steep for a cup of coffee.  But if you are serious at all about coffee, you'll notice how serious this place is about coffee, too.  I HIGHLY suggest that you sit at the 'bar' on your first visit, just so you can see the pretty, scientific, crazy glassware they use to make the prefect cup of coffee each time.  
I never really got into the perfect process for brewing coffee until I came to this place - Starbucks is nothing compared to Alchemy!
Clean, usually quiet place to hang out or study.  Always something to appreciate from the coffee novice to the expert.  Apparently, the staff goes through rigorous training for weeks to learn the craft of brewing, so they really know their stuff here!

Best coffee in Richmond!  Get a cappuccino, as this is one of the few places that does a proper cappuccino.  The shop also has great atmosphere for relaxing and chatting with friends.

I also love that they sell beans from roasters all over the country!
