Walked into this bar about a year ago and still haven't left. Luckily the the great staff and beers have made my new home very pleasant. The chalkboards are also pretty cool

Let's you and I have a chat about the Local...go ahead and pull up a chair. ..you're probably already sitting, forget that part.. We're gonna touch on a handful of subjects; I'll try to keep some sense of order about them, but I can guarantee I will lose my train of thought and begin rambling at some point (probably already did, whatever). I'm thinking: atmosphere day and night, bar staff, beers - of course!, musical selections, and most importantly - bathrooms. Alright. I'm drinking here now, so I'm already losing steam. BER!! -A constantly rotating tap list will absolutely absolutely (intentionally twins) keep your taste buds on their toes! I mean, woof (in place of other expletives), from local sours to west coast IPLs to southern witbiers, with a hardy smattering of every other brew you can imagine, these guys do a helluva job of supplying what you know and love- with what you've been missing your whole life. (Try the Half Acre Pony Pilsner, or that Cucumber beer- WOW. Just goosin' it!). Atmosphere!! -Daytime: The Local has a semi-rowdy, semi-quiet, bartender-familiarity which likens back to OD's (for those in-towners) and is homey-divey (for those out-of-towners). Any music which happens to be playing is enjoyable, yet background to conversation (which is often bolstered by the bartenders and soon-to-be-friends), yet a hankering for your own is not only encouraged, but readily available on their jukebox. (If you liked the pilsner, try Manha Manha by The Frays- or better yet toss on The Proclaimers, and I'll buy you a beer). -Nighttime: Personally not a fan of the nighttime...HOWEVER, if you've ever met me, that'll probably be the reason you come here during the nighttime. The crowd is young (college and up, by my estimation - old barstard that I am), and really clearly has an amazing time. The bouncer is attentive, yet forgiving, and does an unrivaled job of keeping the mood fun and safe. BATHROOMS!!!!!!! -I have nothing to say about the Women's room. Though from my limited imagine I would say- "It is clean, and private. It's placement (well out of the way of 'pedestrian traffic') makes it ideal for taking care of 'important paperwork'. Also, it smells nice." all supposition, people. Cool it. -The Mens room is just what you'd expect. Toilet that flushes, mirror, door. Seriously, though. It too is clean, and is not an unenjoyable experience. Bar staff. -This is a tough one for me. I LOVE beer (yes Travis, even Brooklyn). I love quality, I love quantity. I love a hangover from Millers, I love the crust in my eyes when I wake up on my front steps after "trying the new double IPA". I think the most succinct I can be about the bar staff is: If the Local only served O'Douls, (and let me say, having gone the NA route, and the ultra-A route, there is NOTHING wrong with abstaining from the influences of alcohol), however...AHEM...if the Local only served non-alcoholic beer, the bartenders would still have me coming back day after day. From the warmest and most welcoming smile you will ever experience on a Sunday morning, to hard-nosed yet caring beer connoisseur on Monday. Tuesday's fresh-faced graduate,to Wednesday's trivia bartender, holding down the madness of the intellectuals with a single look. Thursday you'll no doubt find one of the most genuine and friendliest people I, personally, have had the distinct pleasure of meeting. As The Cure would say, Friday I'm in love. (Not really, guys, calm down). Friday's publican is a wonderful and caring person- entirely unrivaled. Saturday is just leftovers, whatever. Not mentioned above: a huge boon to the Local. There are staff who have moved on from customer service. All too often, stories are told of those who aren't around anymore, or those who aren't serving. Sometimes it's career, sometimes it's college. Every bartender who moves on is a clear loss to the clientele, thankfully their replacements are dually screened and trained to meet, if not exceed, this standard. I hope you give the Local a shot. It's been a life-saver and memory-maker for my friends and I.
