Best Mount Pleasant Restaurant for Local's and Visitors

The Shelter Kitchen + Bar was born from a simple idea.

Three Charleston area builders and one savvy event coordinator couldn’t find the perfect hangout. They were looking for cold beer, drinks to suit any situation, good food, friendly service, and reasonable prices; basically everything you hope to find in a great local's joint! Since they couldn’t find it, they decided to build it and thus The Shelter was born.

The Shelter opened late summer of 2012 and has quickly become one of Mount Pleasant’s favorite bars and restaurants, with a reputation for an outstanding locally sourced menu, amazing brunch, that also hosts a vibrant evening cocktail and music scene alongside a dog and family friendly hangout.

During the day you can grab your favorite burger, sandwich or soup along with an amazing choice of appetizers to get things started. If lunch really isn’t your thing then we’d like to welcome you to brunch! Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm. Our brunch rivals that of anything else you can find in Mount Pleasant.

Did we also mention that we are located within a peak of historic Shem Creek? Every local will tell you that Shem Creek is one of the more special places to hangout in Charleston and is the up and coming dining and socializing destination.

So come by and seek some chill at the shelter. Hopefully you’ll decide to stay awhile…there’s a good chance if you linger for a minute to play on the pool table or the corn hole boards that you may just run into Ashley, Ryan, Thomas or Dave welcoming you in to come join the family and fun.
