The DVMs and technicians did a great job with our cat. He seemed pretty sick and they made a diagnosis and treatment plan promptly. He was able to return home after a couple of days and is back to himself. As far as cost, any emergency vet care is not cheap but their charges seemed very reasonable and fair. They also talk to you about estimates in advance so there are no surprises. Highly recommended.

I would recommend going anywhere but the Animal Emergency Clinic. We came in with our four month old lab puppy last night because he had accidentally gotten into rat poison, and they were terrible. We called ahead to let them know we were coming and they said he would see a doctor right away because of the severity of the situation. When we got there, we filled out paperwork but then waited for over an hour and a half in the waiting room. When we asked what was taking so long we were told we were next on the list and that someone would see us soon. Finally we got into an exam room where a technician saw our puppy for one minute just to get his heart rate and temperature. We waited in that room for an hour and fifteen minutes. We repeatedly asked to see a doctor, when the doctor would be available, and informed them that our puppy was getting restless and was clearly starting to not feel well at all. The worst was that we could see back into the restricted area where all the technicians and doctors were, and they were standing around talking for the entire time we were there. There was no urgency to see pets and they came off like they would rather gossip with one another than actually help the pets that were being brought in. Finally after waiting for over two and a half hours and pleading for our puppy to see someone, we left and went to VSS on Manchester at 141. They immediately saw him because it had been so long since he ingested the poison they were very concerned about him and the possible neurological and physical side effects. The Emergency Animal Hospital would not give us a straight answer, were incredibly rude and condescending when we asked to see a doctor or get any progress update, watched other owners wait just as long and be treated the same way, and we are so thankful we decided to leave and went to a significantly more qualified hospital.

Be prepared to spend 3+ hours here. I understand that they are busy but to not give us an update on our dog for 2 hours is NOT okay. This is the only 24 hour vet close to our house so we come here because of course dogs (like kids) wait till the actual vet (or doctor) is closed to have issues.

Always loved this place - until tonight. We've waited longer tonight with only two other people here, than when the place was packed. The staff so far behave as though we are an inconvenience. For the price one pays here you would think some updates on time or inquiries as to how we are doing would be made. The restroom toilet was so dirty that I squatted, and I'm a camper! I think there has probably been a serious staff turnover. I advise taking your chances at Webster Animal Hospital. There's a reason they are so busy. We would be there if we had not already spent so much time here.

My experience with the St. Louis Animal Emergency Clinic on Big Bend was of the highest quality. My sweet, dear little kitty who was 19 years old, was not doing well. She had been steadily declining over the past week and that day, a Sunday, we knew she needed to be seen immediately. We didn't wait long and Dr. Amy came out and told us that she was suffering and provided us with those impossible choices. She told us to spend as much time as we needed to decide whether to put our sweet fluffy down that day or wait until the next day at our regular vet's office. It was a very difficult, sad and horrible decision. We cried and cried, held our sweet kitty, and discussed our options. We finally realized that the time had come to say goodbye and so with the very patient, kind and gentle Dr. Amy, we did say goodbye that day. Dr. Amy was so kind and wonderful - I can't imagine anyone being as supportive and generous with time and space as she was with us. I am so grateful that she was working that day. Thank you, Dr. Amy - for creating a safe space for us to make that excruciating decision and for your support.
