The Amtrak station in Tomah, WI, has a nice rural country feel to it. You can see the nice tall bluffs on the west and also see the good old Tomah Lumber Store, which reminds me of log cabins. The only complaint about this station though is that trains are not always reliable; sometimes the Empire Builder trains come later than their scheduled times, while they moght leave early sometimes. Also, if passengers are stuck here, there is not really any food, or beverages they can buy while waiting for the next train. There are only two trains that service this station, one in the morning to Chicago that arrives at Tomah at 11:30 a.m. and one in the evening to Seattle that arrives at 6:30 p.m. This means that there is only one train a day that travels in each of the directions. If you miss one of the trains, you are kind of out of luck.Whereas the Tomah Greyhound Station a few miles north has a nice McDonald's you can sit inside and buy some meals/ snacks at. It also has multiple buses that depart to Minneapolis, or Chicago throughout the day. They used to have nice service to Madison, but they have significantly reduced trips there to once a day in the evening. Many of the buses throughout the day just go straight to Milwaukee, and then Chicago without stopping at Madison, or Wisconsin Dells. Also, the Madison stop is very inconvenient, it is located in an area of Madison's far south side, that makes you feel as if you are going towards Fitchburg, or Verona. These are very run down suburbs of Madison. The Greyhound bus used to serve Downtown Madison directly but the stop was demolished in 2009. The Greyhound then switched to a location bear downtown by the Oscar Mayer Factory and back and forth to Deforest. Both were reasonably nice stops. But in 2013, that started to change when Greyhound moved its Madison stop to a run down Arby's normally served by the Van Galder Bus Company for its routes to Janesville, Beloit, Rockford, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Downtown Chicago, and Chicago Midway Airport. There is also a very huge Walmart across the street which has a whole variety of grocery and snack items as well as electronic items that are helpful for travel, such as phone chargers. Also, in the middle of 2016, a new Starbuck's store opened right next to Arby's. That is a plus beacuse they offer high end coffee drinks and sell some pretty nice pastries.

Trains from West are NEVER on time no matter what the weather. The station stinks,no vending machine for drinks or edible snacks

Run down station with little or no available room for passengers to wait. I'd recommend waiting on your vehicle instead as the parking lot is very close to the tracks. I loved the actual Amtrak experience overall but this particular station is a joke.
