Last Fall we vacationed in Santa Fe. great place vacationed there many times in the last 60 years. We stayed at Otra Vez just at the same time that your mayor was touting what a safe place Santa Fe was at the time the sanctuary city issues began to heat up. The downtown is full of homeless, even sleeping in our hotel doorway. We rented bikes at a downtown shop. We could not purchase insurance against theft. We parked the bikes on a secured second story courtyard. The bike was stolen the second night, complete with footage on the Otra Vez site camera. The condo would not take any of the responsibility for the loss of the bicycle, though from the footage it is pretty clear that the thief must have had a key to the iron gate security as he came up that step. The bicycle said the price I had to pay was many hundreds of dollars and this was a "wholesale" price. I would never have rented the bike if I knew they valued it at over $1000 dollars. I am retired and did not have the money to cover this awful charge. I assure that my view of the "charm" of your city is sullied by the unsafe state of your downtown and the unwillingness of your business establishments to take any responsibility or risk for your unsafe city.
