What great centrally located Newport park. There is a lot of history, from the approx 6-7 hundred year old mysterious viking tower in the center of the park to the homes of historic figures all around the outside of it (with ample info listed throughout the park), it is a very interesting place. Don't forget Meg's Milk Bar right next door for an amazing breakfast or lunch, or the art museum across the street.

This park is home of the Newport Tower the oldest attraction in Rhode Island, On the winter solstice at sunrise the sword shines on the wall, then the sunlight aligns with the windows, then at 9am the sunshines on the keystone really cool

Worth a stop to see the tower as you stroll Bellevue Ave and nearby attractions.

The Newport tower is an astronomical tower that is known to be over 500 years. It was rebuilt during the 16th and 17th century. During the spring equinox the sun would shine through one of the windows onto an egg shaped stone above one of the arches. The time for Easter would be known. Some argue that the structure was built by the family of Benedict Arnold.
